The mechs are closer to the soviet ones than the first pic you linked. Big, bulky machines that dominate the skyline. Admittedly they have more armour plating and less exposed parts but everything else pretty is spot on. Except for the close infantry support of course. Since no man-portable anti-mech weapons exists, infantry is completely useless against mechs. In a head-on fight they'd simply get squished and blown up. So their role is mostly limited to defence, clearing out cities and surprise raids on fixed guns/bases. In other words the kind of stuff where they're up against humans not inside of 8 meter death machines.

Make sense-when the first tanks rolled out, there wasn't much infantry could do against them either except run away. But the mechs can't hold or take land, remember-the infantry roll in after them to take the trenches and defense lines the armor clears out. It's the only way to avoid a horrible loss of life-it seems in this world, they had mechs ready to go, whereas in our world, it took a few years of the WW1 meatgrinder to figure all that out...

I think the pic is more like a clean up operation, not close support.

Save that for the 25th mech squad sequel.
