EDIT: Trimmed to avoid drama.

I'll switch over to (0,0,-4).  If that's also blocked, just put me as close as possible, so we can keep things moving.  Thank you, USEC. ^_^

Resisting urge to write cliched high school AU fanfic with this RP's characters.

....dammit.

Let's try to keep this from drowning in too many cliches, ok?

Are you implying that there's a level, then, where there's just enough cliches? :P

It depends on their use, but generally, the fewer cliches the better.

Especially those particularly putrid "highschool anime" style.

Right, going to go write an angsty story about Iris getting sniped and dying in someone's arms while telling them she loved them and it starts raining and stuff. :P

Of course, cliches aren't bad. There's a reason that they're cliche you know.

No, but then, neither is water. Doesn't mean we can't drown in it, or be uncomfortably wet, or get stabbed with an icicle, or take analogies too far. Moral of the story, let's build a snowman.

On an unrelated note, do the Harbinger mechs have arms? If not, I might need to move up a size.

BURN THE SNOWMAN

I don't think they have arms- given their intrinsic attack is 'Slam' and they only have Top slots-, so you might have to move up to an Ishim for that.

All mechs have arms. It's just that the Harbringer's arms are relatively small and weak, so they aren't effective at brawling as the other robots. Thus they slam into their enemies as their melee attack. Plus having three different attacks labelled Punch would have been silly, so I picked the words that came quickest to my head. So don't read too much into the Slam attack.

So you head bang your enemies to death when you slam them?

Of course, cliches aren't bad. There's a reason that they're cliche you know.

They don't have to be bad. But generally they're only good when subverted, altered, modified so they have just enough left to give a base of recognition. Maybe they were good once, but when you repeat a joke, it isn't as funny, is it?

You have complete freedom - or close, anyway - on how to develop your characters and their interactions with others. Letting them just be cliches is not only unimaginative, it's lazy.
It's boring.

Certainly, you can base characters off ideas. That's fine. But it's certainly more interesting to give your own ideas to light - beyond generic anime character #451. A gimmick character runs into much of the same problems. Sure, it might be amusing if Mydoki talked about nothing but regulations each time - but it'd stop being funny pretty quickly. So she has aspects beyond "Follows regulations". It's part of her character, but doesn't define her completely.

New turn is up. Sorry for taking so long, I'll get the next turn up much sooner. Wednesday at the latest, depending on how quickly everybody posts.

Also the 60mm Repeater Cannon is getting nerfed by 10% accuracy. It's a touch too strong at the moment, especially against the Ishims. Though I would like to point out that the only reason that the Excelsior is still alive is because it's the first turn of the first mission. It was in range of almost all of the Edo mechs, and by all accounts should be destroyed in a massive hail of fire. Normally everybody would be clustered up by each other so that I can spread attacks around, but with someone so isolated... I won't be as kind as I was now. Just so that everyone knows.

Darn it. I would describe what I'd like my endgame mech to be, but if I do that I would almost certainly never use that design. Herm... maybe tomorrow, if I change my mind, but argh... The indecision.

I think I'll flip a coin or something in the morning.
