Better always use simfire :P Makes the game so much quicker! I've yet to find situations where it really matters!

Also, I actually don't know how to set my MGs to rapid fire within MekHQ. Any tips on that?

And how often do you cheat with Against the Bot? Often it'll give me completely impossible missions that destroy an entire lance, or the game will bug and the AI will refuse to deploy. I've been playing what I guess could be termed easy mode by not having double the enemy vehicles, by skipping missions when things are too hot, and by allowing myself to put mechs in a maintenance bay for repairs, and sometimes cheating and GMing CT repairs.

I don't think I'd generally be able to keep up otherwise, though it'd be fun to try to. I also just generally cheat the defection rolls, because I'm not interested in starting from scratch every year.

Also, the reason I reduce the number of enemy vehicles if because battles take too long otherwise, and also because sometimes BT has bullshit luck and you get AC/2 or AC/5'd from a billion miles away, get a critted, and instantly lose the assault mech you just bought to a catastrophic explosion. I just can't deal with that.

1. You don't MG's to rapidfire in mechhq. You do it in megamek once all of the units are loaded. Right click on your unit and configure it. If the option for it is greyed out, you need to enable that rule in it. I sadly don't have a copy of MM on my laptop right now, so I can't tell you where it would be located in the options.

2. Not often honestly. I've worked with mekhq a lot so I tend to get things tweaked just right so it's not often I get impossible missions. It still happens on occasion, and when it does, I just start the battle and force surrender myself and count it as a retreat. Some battles are just unwinnable. Like real life. I do on occasion tend to delete units from MM after the game is loaded up but only in certain cases. I mean, there really isn't any cheating. A game is meant to be fun. If you play it in a way you have fun, well, good for you. :P

3.As for the repairs, you probably have the difficulty for them set to high. It also helps if you adjust the maintance rulesets. I like to have the 'parts are only damaged at quality A'. That can help starting out when you only have a few mech techs. It means that you can get at least three 'bad' maintaince cycles before shit really starts breaking down.

Neato :) Thanks for the response!

I've taken to trying to get only Veteran and Elite mechtechs (some Regs creep in there) for assigned to maintenance. Greens and regulars take care of most repairs, since parts are in decent state most of the time. I do have the only A quality parts get damaged thing (why A isn't good quality, I'll never understand).

I'm starting to wish there was a meta-meta-campaign now though. I just go from contract to contract to contract... with each contract meaning little to nothing. Heh. One day I will be satisfied :P

No worries. I don't mind helping. Just sad I can't play it right now. My current laptop is old enough that even small scale battles take ages for my PC to process the AI's turn. And I just don't have a steady enough schedule to actually plan any games against people.

Even with PrincessBot? It's supposed to be a lot more efficient than the usual bot. 4 v 4 battles ought to be not horrible, and I do think you can customise it so that you always get mechs (so you don't get double the # of Vs)... or manually reduce the number of enemy units.

Though admittedly, MegaMek is somehow really taxing on the computer. Some options alleviate this, like calculating moves, LOS, and so forth.

My laptop is a ancient beast from times long past. It sports a whopping 1.0 processor and barely had two gigs of ram. This my old faithful back up pc. :P I'm afraid though, that I might have to put it down soon.

I've been having fun with this. Although I guess I kind of cheat by putting a drop ship in a force and having it deploy into missions as reinforcements. It takes 9 turns to get to the battle but it can usually wipe out a full company on its own.

And if I'm not mistaken, hiring a dropship allows you to use the transport bay for repairs, which is a big plus. In the Field or Field Workshop repairs never succeed properly...

They do succeed but when your trying to repair the engine, gyro or internal structure, then it gets hard. The biggest downside of using the dropship in combat, it tends to overkill enemies which barely leave any salvage.

Hahaha, never did try dropships in battle...

You mean the things that cost multiple hundreds of thousands of C-Bills? :D

Actually, a couple of questions.

How the hell to I check my Pilot's special abilities? As they've increased to Veteran they've gotten special abilities but I can't find where they are. These should obviously define in which mech I put each mechwarrior, but I CAN'T FIND THEM. I know they're in there somewhere, because MegaMek recognises them and I get some bonuses some time.

Also, has anybody had trouble repairing equipment in their warehouse in version 0.3.19?

Special abilities should be visible in the MekHQ in the Personnel tab under the pilot's Edge score (if they possess a special ability).

Turns out I had them disabled in the Campaign Options. Now they're showing up. Finally! I knew something had to be wrong - just weird that they still made their way into MegaMek for battles. Thanks!

Decided to make a quick duel between my Awesome AWS-8Q and Avatar AV1-OI used by the Princess AI to see how those simultaneous fire/physical would change the gameplay.

And oh boy, i forgot how strong those PPC could be.

The 1st round didn't went well for me, it started as in a typical old western standoff duel in which neither the AI or my Mech movied
And i ended the round with my Awesome falling on the ground after being on the recieving end of the Avatar weaponry, lucky me none of the Thunder 15 missiles found their way to my armor.

While the AI resisted my PPC and didn't seemed to be much disturbed .

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Fortunately, my pilot managed to get my Awesome standing up and fired again his PPC, while taking some hits, this time my mech didn't fell on the ground, while one of my PPC utterly annihilated the Avatar head and the pilot that was apparently hiding in it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That sounded brutal, the good side is that the Avatar is still intact, only the head to be replaced, would make a good loot if i was salvaging things in MekHQ .

Looks like the Princess bot got its revenge in 3 turns this time.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ouch.
While Princess bot was a gigantic improvement on the default bot regarding the calculation time, i still hope the Megamek devs will continue to improve that calculation time, on a 1 vs 1 on a very small map with nearly nothing on it, it's still oddly long.

edit : i noticed i was a lot of versions behind ( 0.39.2 ) in comparison to the latest dev version ( 0.41.10 ) , so i fetched the latest dev version , only to see that unfortunately it does not really improve on the princess bot calculation time, but tons of bugfixes are still good, and i needed my vengeance .

And i got it this time
