Apologies if this has been asked before.

Do I need to run world gen after installing Modest Mod, or can I use it with an existing fort/world?

I vote you run worldgen. Messing around with raws in save files, in general, is not the best thing to do.

Parts of it might work if you studiously avoid adding or deleting any reactions and interactions, but it's much easier to just gen a new world.

Hi! Love your work. Any idea when (or if! Thank Toady for bugfixes.) a new version will be released? Do you need any help on that front?

Also: would you accept a tooltip module?

This weekend!

The only help I could use is in confirming that Toady's orientation fix in 0.42.04 went through.

I mean I write out tooltips for all vanilla reactions (encoded in the raws) explaining what they do for a new Modest Module.

Sure. If you feel like it, go for it. Otherwise I'll add it to the poll up top and get around to it... eventually.

In my defense, Expanded Plants is friggin huge.

Okay, here are the two reaction files, modified with descriptions of all reactions. There is no unifying format, but I tried to include reagents, where to find the reagents, what use the product is, and any potential pitfalls (such as papyrus-making directing the user to look at the screw press for paper-making, because that wasn't really clear). Unfortunately, due to limited space, I could only include one or two of those (I prioritized pitfalls).

Any comments or suggestions?

Have you considered using Rubble to make the mod easier to update and install with other mods?

I think you may have uploaded a draft version - your post says there are descriptions for all reactions, but a number of them have no description, including tanning, rendering fat, pressing honeycombs, and brewing drinks. That's not necessarily a problem - I can fill in the missing ones as needed - but in case you've already done the work, I don't want to duplicate it.

I haven't looked at Rubble in quite some time. It may be time to look at it again. Not for this release, though.

I decided to skip the self-explanatory reactions, but I can go back and fill those in.

EDIT:Okay, I think I got them all except for MAKE_SHARP_ROCK, which is adventure-only.

OK! The files are uploaded, the first post is edited.

Phoebus and ASCII only at the moment, as most graphics packs haven't updated for 0.42.04 yet.

There's a bug in Accelerated in one of the plants, but the error log won't even tell me what file it's in, so I didn't want to hold up the release for it.

As always, please let me know if you find any bugs, or anything that you think is outside the spirit of the mod. Also, if there's a graphics pack you want that's updated for 0.42.04 that I missed, please let me know.

I'm going to bed.

To-do list for the next version:

  • Check "gobble" tokens and consider putting them on some critters
  • Consider giving clawed animal people a claw kick attack like you did with birds
  • Consider making a Module for Photuris predator fireflies
  • Should make firefly+ flesh inedible
  • Give more accurate vision_arcs to critters in general in the future
  • Consider giving sapients back the accelerated template, now that they can't be butchered
  • Consider adding millstones & querns to the non-magma-safe menu
  • Add specific reactions for milling to slurry
  • Un-remains-ify pearls

What do these refer to? Did I miss something earlier in the thread?

Thanks for continuing to keep the mod up to date!

I haven't looked at Rubble in quite some time. It may be time to look at it again. Not for this release, though.

At one time (eg for 40.24, Rubble 6.16) I had a Rubble version of Modest Mod available in the main Rubble download. I would be happy to port it again if someone else maintains it...
