Adrik looks at his drake.
<You are...>
Hey, are these drakes male or female?

Arwen:
Well, that's easier said than done. It's a two part problem. First, the group has to get up the top level, and then, second, they have to decide which way to go.
To get out of this pit, you can either go back through the crevice and climb up the rope, but the drakes can't come up with you. Alternatively, you can open the cage around the wooden staircase and get out that way, with the drakes. Sadly, the cage is locked, to prevent the drakes from escaping, and the key is on a key rack up at the top of the stairs, far out of reach. The kobolds might have a key, and, of course, there's nothing preventing Arwen from heading through the crevice, climbing up the ledges, grabbing the key and unlocking the door.
Then, the party'll have to decide which way to delve deeper. There's the curtained room to the southeast, back in the large chamber, and, as Arwen remembers from his first trip into the cave, the kobold barracks.

Adrik:
(Intelligence (Nature) Check: 14+1)
Adrik's drake (D1) is male, as is the unpetted drake, while Alice is, luckily for Arwen, female. Drake sexual dimorphism is most obvious in their horns and their overall sizes; males have larger horns which they use to attract and fight over mates, while the females are somewhat larger.

Johanna rumbled.

"Nice, nice-more giant Lizard dogs. How are we going to feed them all..."

Action: Search the kobolds for keys! Also, I'm sure I can acid splash/hammer my way through the gate anyway if they don't have them...

"Right... Well, which way do we want to go? We could cut through the Kobold Barracks if we go back a bit, but we can't take our new additions with us. We could always try to open the cage and head deeper."

"I think we should try to avoid the Kobolds as long as we can-we're technically here to spy on them. Let's go through the curtained room, I say."

"Lots of jerky?  Corpses?"

"Right. We could dispose of those kobolds corpses, couldn't we?"

Adrik does this as well.  It is important to create a relationship between you and your trained animal.

Johanna:
(Investigate Check: 11+6)
Huh. One of the kobolds had a key on a makeshift belt. Johanna carefully cuts it off, trying to not dislodge the kobold's undergarments, or get her hands covered in kobold insides.
Key get!
She then precedes to unlock the cage door.

Johanna, Adrik and Arwen:
The three arcane casters feed the giant lizards the corpses of the lizardmen. It's a bloody process, and not worth describing. The drakes seem happy, though, but their breath reeks of blood and bile.

All:
Arwen leads the way through the cave, pointing out a trapped floor. Rex bounds over happily when he sees his master's return, but gives a low growl when he sees the new drakes.
Arwen brushes aside the curtain with his hand.
(Dexterity Save: 18+2, Success!)
The curtain makes a small clink of metal on metal.
The smell of old blood assaults the party's noses, but it's still better than the troglodytes. The floor is covered with dried puddles of it. Four floor-to-ceiling columns are spaced across the chamber, and chains have been strung between them like clotheslines. Animal carcasses hang on hooks from the chains. You see gutted and skinned antelope, deer, goats, what might be big cats and even a few small bears. Some of this meat has been here for a while from the smell of it. The room is only cold, not freezing, so that probably isn't helping. The drakes perk up at the smell.

Spoiler: Party Status (click to show/hide)
Map.

<No.  Not now.>
If they don't go after the carcasses, strips of jerky.
<Good.>
