Johanna wanted to try one of her new spells out…she rubbed a bit of fleece in her off hand, muttering her arcane chant, fashioning the magic in her mind before it became subject to reality.

She then projected a hopefully convincing illusion to her attacker-a blazing ring of magic fire encircling and trapping him. Johanna fashioned her spell in such a way so that it would become unbearably hot if he tried to move in any way, the flames leaping, roaring and biting like a living beast-only in the center would he feel ‘safe’ from the flames, though his brain would still be nicely cooked, as long he believed the illusion was real. Her aim was to debilitate one of the attackers while her allies dealt with the other one…a cruel trap, no doubt, one that fed off of the victims panic and fear….

“Maggio Fearus Pontificatus! Tastus fryus cultus!” She said, waving her arms wildly. Had to ham it up a bit…

Action: Phantasmal force on one of the cultists-trap him in a burning ring of illusion fire.

(Johanna's Magic Damage: 3 damage!)
The cultist screeches to a halt, swinging madly at the space around him, crying out in fear, pain and rage.
(Cultist 1's Investigation Check: Failure!)
The cultist continues to swing at the illusionary fire, blindly hacking at it, trying to keep it at bay? Trying to beat it back? It's impossible to know what's going on in his mind.
(Cultist 2's Attack vs. Arwen, with Advantage: 14 23, Success! 14 damage!)
With a wild, reckless look in his eyes, and a growl, the second cultist charges forward, dancing through the drakes, bringing his axe down onto Arwen's shoulder, cutting deep through the armor.
"I SPILL YOUR BLOOD IN HER MOST SACRED OF PLACES, HERETIC! YOU WILL DIE IN HER NAME!" he bellows in Arwen's face.

Adrik calls upon the drakes.
<Defend Arwen!>
He also fires a Ray of Frost at 2 if he's not currently keeping the drakes' attention.

Arwen spits in the cultist's face, seeming rather uninterested in the axe embedded in his shoulder. He opens his mouth to speak calmly, the words flowing smoothly off his tongue.

"Si slew dout champion, Cyanwrath. Svabol xurwkic wux siofme wux geou fare tikil desta, faessi? Wux houpe zara petissei vur loritic, weakening tikil vis challenger. Sjek si wielg nomeno kear, zyak qe coi, shar wux geou nurti forget svabol si geou tir ekess wux. Ehs nishka."

Arwen takes a quick breath and rams his blade towards the cultist, aiming for the weak squishy bits. He also activates his Second Wind!

(Adrik's Handle Animal: 16+1, Success!)
One of the unnamed drakes prepares to push Arwen out of the way.
((Unless otherwise noted, they'll act on initiative count 0.))
(Adrik's Spell Attack with Advantage: 8+7+3 3, Success! 4 damage!)
Firing around Arwen, Adrik nails the cultist in the chest, but they seem to shrug off the attack with ease.

The cultist sneers back at Arwen, "Turalisj lexri ihk vi loreatir sthyr mrith waruirihlilg di wer darastrix ooble."
Spoiler: Draconic (click to show/hide)
(Arwen's Attack with Advantage: 13+7+4 10, Success! 8+5 damage!)
The large man winces in pain as Arwen's sword drives its way into his gut.
(Arwen's Second Wind: 10+4 HP recovered!)

(Mirella's Attack with Advantage: 3 19+5+1, Success! 2+3 damage!)
Mirella's stick impacts the cultist's head solidly, and after a moment of recovery, he turns towards Mirella with fury in his eyes.
"You're next, after I finish off your friend."

The unnamed drake lunges, tackling Arwen out of harm's way.

Johanna continued channeling her illusion (it had worked quite well, she thought), but with the other hand she threw some actual fire!

Action: Firebolt on the savage cultist!

(Johanna's Spell Attack: 8 16+6+4, Success! 3 damage!)
Johanna's fire finds its target with ease, singeing the skin of the cultist.
(Johanna's Spell Damage: 2 damage!)
The cultist trapped by the dwarf's illusion reels back, as if bitten by the imaginary fire.

(Cultist 1's Investigation Check: 12, Failure!)
Luckily, the cultist has yet to realize that the fire is only in his head.

(Cultist 2's Attack vs. Mirella, with Advantage: 14 17, Failure!)
The cultist savagely bashes upon Mirella, but she intercedes the attacks with her shield, and they are easily deflected.

(Adrik's Magic Missile damage: 4+1, 3+1, 2+1, 12 damage!)
(Adrik's Handle Animal: 1+1, CRITICAL FAILURE!)
Adrik's magic slams into the cultist, but his attack is not complemented by a drake's own attack.

Mirella hefted her shield, trying to draw the cultist's attention towards her and away from Arwen.  "Do keep trying against me.  After all, this hasn't been more than a single touch of Selûne's grace."

Keep attacking Cultist 2

(Arwen's Ranged Attack, with Advantage: 13+7+1 5, Success! 1+5 damage!)
Arwen chucks a hand axe into the shoulder of the cultist.

(Mirella's Attack with Advantage: 5 5+5+4, Success! 1+3 damage!)
Mirella smacks the cultist again, and they growl back "HA! Your milksop god is no match for the might of The Dragon Queen!"

Johanna underhanded another tiny firebolt at the Cultist who should really have died by now.

She wasn't sure how long the other Cultist would be held, but she began adding the illusion of smoke to water his eyes and lungs, to get him coughing, to keep him from concentrating enough to break the illusion-she then recalled distinctly the smoke from burning Greenest...how it stuck harshly in her throat, and traced living shadows over her vision, how it stole a sudden fresh breath drawn on the battlefield, and replaced it with the bitter taste of ashes-a feeling that would make you retch, and yet you would still struggle to draw air. Yes, she remembered the panic of a choking smoke...in her mind (and soon in the Cultists mind) she would attempt to recreate this feeling.

It might break his concentration and keep him in a few more vital moments.

Action: Illusionary choking smoke attack!

Also, Moar firebolt on the active cultist!

The illusion warps, and screams turns to coughs.
(Johanna's Spell Damage: 1 damage!)
(Johanna's Spell Attack, with Advantage: 4 14+6+2, Success! 7 damage!)
The cultist is almost knocked over by the continual onslaught, but grits his teeth and swings once more at Mirella.

(Cultist 2's Attack vs. Mirella, with Advantage: 18 20, Success! 7 damage!)
The cultist swings through his pain, the blade of his axe colliding painfully with Mirella's side.
(Cultist 1's Investigation Check, with Disadvantage: 1 8, Failure!)
Do I even need to describe his ineptness?

Arwen pants. This day was going to leave him with scars. But he couldn't keel over here. Not after all this. He grunted and forced his sword arm into another swing, ignoring the burning spreading across his body, urging him to stop. He'd stop soon, but not until these threats to his companions were gone...

"HRAAAAAAH!" It was more a roar of pain that a yell of triumph, but his sword arm swung towards the cultist!

Attack Cultist 2!
