"Well, bad news, boy! Everywhere there's Dragons, you can bet there will be Kobolds. Lots and lots of them. And we'll probably be dealing  with Dragons for the rest of this campaign, if we like it or not."

Arwen sighs. "And we just finished patching up the fourth wall too... Well, at least Kobolds tend to be pretty weak individually."

"What do you mean, walls-we're on a campaign. Like, a war! A very long war is called a campaign." She says, with exasperation.

Adrik casts Minor Retcon on Arwen, Johanna, and himself.

"Right, we'll have to be ready for anything if we're to defeat this Tyranny of Dragons!"

The party climbs down the rough stairwell, and those at the front realize that the air has an acidic taste to it, and it burns the throat. Adrik, on the other hand, is completely unaffected. The chamber that opens at the bottom of the stairs is immense. a wide ledge runs along the left wall and drops away to a pit on the right . Many stalactites descend from the ceiling, and the sound of dripping water echoes continuously. Wooden stairs have been built down to the lower floor, and have been enclosed with a stout iron cage. What exactly the lower level contains is obscured from vision, but a closer look over the ledge should reveal it.

((Is this, Adrik is unaffected by the acidity, or is this, everyone cleared out the acidity already?))

Arwen nods, motioning for one of the sneakier members of the group to go check it out.

Johanna pulled a flat cloth from her messkit (still stained from lunch), and fashioned it into a makeshift bandanna to fit across her mouth-sort of bandit style, she supposed. The scent of sausage and cheese was much better than that terrible acid smoking her lungs, and would hopefully help, if the smell got worse. She vaguely recalled from her Fathers tales about Dwarf mines-that certain concoctions that could be applied to a face cloth, to filter out really bad air-like charcoal, or vinegar, perhaps? But, didn't think they had anything on hand exactly like that...still, any strong scent would help filter out the bad-simple chemistry.

What she did have was a bottle of perfume-nominally, for diplomatic ventures, it was in her 'court' kit-along a bar of strong soap, and a hand mirror. Here it would help keep her voice nice and clear-a coughing fit was perfect for ruining spellcasting. She applied just a bit of the perfume to the cloth, to help ward away the acidic smoke.

It was actually quite a nice perfume-Calimshan Adamantia #7. Very floral scent, with hints of exotic berries and a tang of cinnamon.

...

She also would have said that they had no more sneaky member in the group since the departure of the Elf waif, but in lieu of that one, she supposed anyone would do...she began padding forward, 'silently', which to a Dwarf means a slightly slower plodding.

Action: Fashion a cloth bandanna to cover my mouth and try to filter out the bad air. Douse it in a bit of perfume from my kit for that mountain fresh scent!

Also, do mah checks-what sort of omen could this acidic tang in the air portend? Is it a natural phenomenon or something more...? Can skip check if the below action reveals the truth.

Peek over the ledge, being careful to use it cover my body against any potential assailants/watchers. Shield/absorb energy spell ready if something actually hits me, and does more than 5 HP of damage.

As the acrid scent hit Mirella, she tried to suppress a cough.  She subtly lifted a hand to her mouth, her mess kit being a more typical sort without a fancy cloth napkin, to try and suppress the worst of the odor, but to no effect.  She also patted her backpack, confirming the loops of the rope were still securely fastened there in case the group chose to abseil down the cliff rather than take the caged steps.

Skill check: What could be creating the acidic tinge?

Johanna:
(Arcana: 12+6)
Drakes are draconic creatures, and, as draconic creatures, they have elemental alignments. They also fart. A LOT. Their farts, when built up in an enclosed space, can have serious effects on those that breath it in. Johanna's relatively certain that this stench comes from Black Drakes. They're empowered by the acid in the air, and wounds they cause will fester (Bites do an extra 1d6 the turn after.) In addition, their scales take on a reflective sheen, making it harder to hit them from range.
(Stealth: 7+1)
Johanna crawls up towards edge, and peers over. The floor on the base of the ledge is covered with large, dark stains, but it's hard to tell what caused them. The most notable features are two large, dark stones. They're about three feet tall, and two feet wide at their widest, shaped like elongated eggs. Their coloration is black, with a rough, scaly pattern that drips liquid slowly onto the stone.
(Preemptive Arcana check: 13+6)
Johanna recognizes them as the eggs of a Black Dragon.
The other prominent feature of the room is an elf, bound hand and foot at the bottom of the cave.
(Secret rolls...)
Johanna notices the tail of a drake swish out from behind a column.
(More secret rolls)

Mirella and Adrik:
Mirella and Adrik spot a tendril? a tentacle? slowly descending from the ceiling towards the oblivious Johanna.

(Mirella's Arcana check: 14+2)

Trust that Johanna's shield will handle it.  We know that's a thing?

Adrik would be familiar with her repertoire from observation.
