(Arwen's Intimidation, with Advantage : 4 7+3, Failure!)
(Mirella's Intimidation, with Advantage: 10+1 3, Failure!)
Arwen and Mirella shout a few insults and jabs at the cultist, but he ignores them.

(Johanna's Spell Damage: 4 damage!)
(Johanna's Intimidation, with Advantage: 15 4, Success!)
Finally, the flames roar up, striking at the cultist, finally overwhelming the courage of the cultist. They toss their weapon away in surrender.

"Alright, one of you knock him out and tie him up or something. We need to make a tactical withdrawal..." she said, eyeing her teammates poor conditions.

"Ahem! But, Right after I lower these mighty flames!" She says, hamming it up.

As the flames recede in his mind's eye, the cultist collapses in relief, and Adrik quickly knocks him out. He's tied up, and dragged into the corner.
Back in the central chamber, the party takes a breather. How many Resting HD would you like to spend?

Johanna needed time to meditate, to study her books, to find more ways to draw on her reserves-ways to beat the house, in gamblers turns. The universe was a jealous miser, and you had to take every bit of magic you can find. It her case, it mostly amounted to lots of obscure arcane mathematics no one else could understand. Sorcerers, pah! They had it easy. Magic was just a well Sorcerers could dip from anytime they liked, and their biggest danger was falling in and drowning. Wizards had to haul up magic using brute strength-in buckets composed of strict discipline, precise formula, and unbreakable logic-and if they made the bucket even slightly wrong it might turn them into a flowerpot instead.

These thoughts on her mind, she guessed she could do for a bracing meal, as well...Jo started a small fire over a bed of kindling (the sort that wouldn't produce much smoke), with a flick of her fingers-it sure beat a flint and tinder, and set some thick wheat bread to toast with butter-no adventure was complete without butter. Skewers of fat Rothe sausage in a spicy peanut sauce of her own creation, would serve the bulk of the meal, and would be topped off with no more than a skin of fresh spring water. Afterwards, she would permit herself a single small block of dark Chocolate-rare, rich stuff-full of energy and sweetness. And nuts. It was imported from far away Maztica Abeir-toril, of course-a pound of it would probably cost as much as Arwens whole suit of armor and all his weapons. Anyway, it had a nice shelf life. She could do worse for dessert!

Cooking was not unlike magic, in most ways, and Johanna found she enjoyed it more often than not...it was as much as the end results, as it was she enjoyed doing things with her own hands. When you were the idle rich, you didn't have to do anything yourself-there were people to cook for you, to fight for you, to wash your clothes...from a young age, she had understood this in a vague economic way-people did these things, and were paid well. Trickle down economics!

Johanna had also understood she never felt entirely uncomfortable relying so entirely on others-some of her noble friends had become adults who were functionally incapable of doing anything for themselves. It was a big part of why she had wanted to learn magic. She had felt that such a system was...fragile, at best...and if it fell apart, where would they be then?

Her thoughts flowed, and she took out her copy of 'Elminster, The Enraged Mage', and began reading. Reading Elminster was always good for when you wanted to get in the mood to blow something up.

((How does this work, anyway?))

None.

Johanna noted Adrik was in fine physical shape, but the strain of using his sorcery magic was visible. She tried not to sound snippy...

"...If you're not going to take a break, how about you do something useful? Patrol for enemies, so we are not taken unawares...or something. You'll notice there are plenty of places for enemies to sneak up on us."

Action: No resting HD spent.

Use Arcane Recovery to gain 2 Level 1 spell slots back.

Also eat a ration (assuming we're tracking rations)

Mirella quietly stepped aside from the main group, heading back to the path leading both back to the entrance and to the alcove where they found the cultists to keep watch.  She gave a brief silent prayer to Selune, thanking her for her support in the battles, then resumed her vigil against anyone sneaking up on them from behind.

Use two healing dice; pull out the list from the herbalist and compare against the surroundings.  Say, that violet fungus cap against those violet fungi off in the next room, or any stalagtites in the area, or cave crickets, or cobwebs...

Arwen:
(Resting HD: 1+2, 3+2, 8 HP recovered!)
Sitting against the pillar, Arwen has a quiet meal of bread. It's the first of the seven pieces of hardtack his father gave him when he left for his adventuring career. He wasn't happy about his son leaving to go roll the dice of fortune with his life, but he supported him all the same.

Johanna:
Ah, the Elminster series. The original copper dreadful. It's actually remarkably wonderful for clearing the mind, since most of the stories are so brainless. They're full of action, flirtation, adventure, deus ex machina, divine sex (something considered heretical by the Church of Mystra, leading to the attempted destruction of those books, and the subsequent rise in demand for 'the book Mystra doesn't want you to read!'), and that one gender-bending time.
That was... wierd.
Either way, it helps to free her subconscious to wander, working on the magical formulas in the background.

Adrik:
Adrik kept watch, scanning the edge of his vision vigilantly, but nothing passed over it. Scales and shadows flashed at the edge, but warning shots of ice send the shadows scurrying.

Mirella:
(Resting HD: 8+3, 5+3, 19 HP recovered!)
Mirella sits off on the side, and burns some incense in meditation. Selune doesn't ask for jubilant celebration in her name; all she needs is the quiet faith of her followers.
(Investigation: 12+2)
Mirella collects some water dripping from the stalagmites in a vial provided by the herbalist. Petrified cobwebs, however, are more elusive.
(Nature: 18+2)
In addition, Mirella is able to safely remove the cap of a violet fungus, wrapping it in fabric, and stowing it for later in her bag. In the trash pit, she finds an abundance of pests scavenging the refuse, including cave crickets, large, pale, almost translucent insects, and horned slugs, equally large, but grotesque affairs. Both are simple to collect and preserve for later use.

Arwen leans back, thinking about his home and family. Were they doing okay? Was the guard? How was his father's bakery? Probably still pumping out that delicious bread and pastries, as they always did.... He wasn't going to lie, he missed his home a bit. But here, with these people, using his strength for a PURPOSE... It felt good. He didn't regret leaving. But he would have to make it a point to go home at some point, to show everyone he was okay. Maybe bring back a nice souvenir for his family... A magic ring for his mother perhaps.... With these thoughts reinvigorating him, he felt a bit better, a smirk coming across his face. That's right... He's got people waiting for him back home, so he HAD to make it out of here! And wait til they saw Alice and Rex! That'd be fun, for sure.

Spending one more Resting Die.

Johanna finished her meal, and belched loud enough to draw hordes of googly eyed cavern monsters to descend upon the party.

"Alright, we're off. Two ways forward, I say let's go meander our way down the stairwell. It's pretty clear this upper level is only used for storage and whatnot."

A nugget of wisdom reappeared to Arwen from his Adventurer friend. "Normally, the way down is the way to the strongest thing in there." Nodding, he picked up his sword.

"Probably where what's her name is. Let's go take care of it and head back to town. I'm kind of sick of Kobolds."

TO THE EAST, WHERE THE BOSS OBVIOUSLY RESIDES. Also prepare Firebolt.
