So how exactly do minor clans work? Do we just pick, like, seven dwarves from a migrant wave and set them as the clan?

I'd say that whoever the minor clan is going to belong to is most likely going to have a specific request as to how they want their clan to come about. Other than that I don't see as to why your idea won't work, it suits me and what I was going for anyways.

Actually, Minor Clans start with just one dorf (preferably a married one).  That dorf's 1st name is changed to his (or her) Clan name and so is their spouse and any children that show up.  They get their profession changed to whatever their Player chooses as their special profession and all other labors are turned off (unless the Minor Clan's Player permits one or another to do the hosting Major Clan a favor...)  Pretty soon, those dwarves will be the pre-eminent specialists in their field for all of dwavendom, (with the stat boost keeping them alive a little more of the time by extension).  Of course, if there's no work in their specialty, Minor Clans are leeches on the resources of the Fortresses they inhabit for a time, so Minor Clans are a mixed blessing.

I can see the Itsatrap!? Clan managing a series of menageries or possibly being the veterinarians that travel from Fort to fort, like that guy in the Star Wars movies who took care of Jaba's pet Rancor.

When someone says "dorf me as a mechanic and call him "ralph", please..." in this game, that's what creates a Minor Clan.

That said, if someone leaves out any profession for some reason, I say they get to be a Clan of professional haulers.

They get their profession changed to whatever their Player chooses as their special profession and all other labors are turned off (unless the Minor Clan's Player permits one or another to do the hosting Major Clan a favor...)

That being said I wouldn't mind helping out those who need some help with butchery or cooking as long as there is some compensation involved, say a room somewhere far away from the main fort stocked with the necessary resources to begin the fort again should it also die due to mysterious causes... Sometimes there are accidents with animals and you need to, well, clean up the mess. What a better way to do so than to make a legendary tallow roast!

As much as I might want to I can't really jump the gun and take over, I'm pretty sure we have to go through other victims first.

Big D, if you can save what you have, retire and post the save, I'll set you up as a Minor Clan instead...

We'll need to give the next Clan their turn first, but since the Captain won't be able to play for a couple of months, the only other Minor Clan is Itsatrap!?, so they'll get the vacated spot.

Also, Big D:  If you're swamped with homework, I can take over the illustrated genealogy of the Clans as well, until you get around to doing your versions. In that case, it's simple enough to switch out images.

Quick hypothetical question:  if I chose to execute a Minor Clan under my influence, what sort of repercussions could I expect?  Is that even allowed, meta?

And if not, what exactly is stopping me from conscripting the clan and putting them on the front-lines?  After all, to enjoy the affluence of the Clan of the Saints and the wealth that comes with it, lives must be put on the line.

Your life.

On my line.

... You're really going to encroach on the dwarves of a Forii like that? As I see it, unless you have a really good reason for doing that you should ask if they want their dwarves on the front line. I mean, it is your fort and all but if you do that it still makes you look bad. I would consider the possible repercussions of such unsolicited actions if I were the one doing so.

Thanks bob. Can I be dorfed as a miner in the Wrathwell fort? Loric Deepson.
And it's not really even worth posting the save, I got a little tunnel dug into a volcano and then swamped. I think it was about 10 days ingame.

Pffffft.  It's just a minor clan. No one cares about them and they breed like vermin.  Meatshields are a renewable resource, xominxac.

And I wouldn't "execute" them unless I had a good reason.
