« on: February 03, 2015, 03:53:45 am »

Just when I thought it couldn't get lamer than a Legendary lignite earring, with menacing spikes of tiger leather and almandine. I present to you.... (drumroll)

The Legendary bulky Alpaca Wool Sock!!!!!

It is decorated with llama wool and cow bone and encircled bands of Alpaca wool!!!!  It is adorned with hanging rings of morion and menaces with spikes of sheep wool!!!  Who could ask for anything more?!?

It's a sock. It is therefore very dwarven and it will probably play a role in the destruction of your fortress.

The other is also good for perpetually burning lignite shenanigans.

It's very useful!

Artifact clothing doesn't wear. When you have enough artifact clothings, you won't need to produce new clothings anymore.

On the other hand, its usefulness is mitigated by two facts: (a) there's only one sock, and (b) each dwarf produces a maximum of one artefact. In order to kit out an entire fort in artefact clothing, one would have to keep training up moodable clothiers and then killing them off. This might be the immediate cause of the artefact sock's more likely use, which is as a weapon in the middle of a fort-wide temper tantrum.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. I can't imagine anyone finding a use for that.

...

In other news, socks are fantastic. You should put in in a shrine and give it offering.

Somewhat related, if I reach the artifact cap and atomsmash useless ones (along with their creators ofc), will I be eligible for new strange moods?

I doubt it. Don't they remain on the artifacts list even after they've been smashed?

You could maybe import artifacts in from other forts, assuming there aren't any bugs related to that.

The only way you can get that dwarf to make a different Artifact is by savescumming, and even then... you'll probably just get a glove, or something.

That head veil is actually pretty awesome from a roleplaying point of view. Very steampunk. I can imagine wearing it myself. Pity you can't get these items out of your computer when the dorfs complete them :)

The only way to influence moods is make all your dwarves weaponsmiths or armorers. Then hope that it does not pick a kid.

Artifact clothing is actually good. Even if it's a drop of water you have a piece of cloth that will never rot, keeping its owner happy.

So can any dwarf claim an artifact, or do I have to assign it?  Is there any way to display them in a nobles room to give the room more value?

I got something even worse.
A craft made of chert; I think it was a bracelet.
It was a possession.
The worst part?
It was ONLY made of the one piece of chert.
2400 dorfbucks is basically worthless in artifact terms...

My favourite solution to that problem is a modification (which I'm not usually into, as I do still prefer a vanilla game) but who knows, perhaps one day it will be a real thing: The Display Cabinet

You actually could in the original beta of DF, but someone brought out PlanePacked and it crashed that universe so Toady had to re-load the universe from an old backup.

This is a bayberry wood toy hammer.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  This object menaces with spikes of bayberry wood.

Total value: 2400

Previous artifact to this (which because it's artifact clothing at least has some use):

This is a asymmetrical badger leather cloak. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is decorated with badger leather

Total value: 4320

What is an asymmetrical cloak?  Is it just one that's poorly constructed?  I THINK SO.
