I prefer to think of myself as an internet gamer rather than internet geek. Though in truth I have no idea what a 'geek' actually is- hey wait I checked the dictionary, awesome now I know what geek means!

I know scientology has a lot of bad press (probably related to the fact that they seem to go about killing their devotees) and that their entire theology is based on the works of a sci-fi writer who swindled them out of $200.000.000, but I'm afraid I have to agree with them on one point. Every one of my friends who is enthusiastic about the Anonymous protest does fall neatly into the category of "internet geek". The pathetic is debatable.</STRONG>

You say "geek" like it's a bad thing.
In some ways, I think this is the point- As I understand it, a small group with their own reasons- fair ones, arguably, but that's not my point- messed with the church of scientology.  The Church, in a move of spectacular arrogance and bad PR, chose to retaliate by making it personal, and lumping tens or hundreds of thousands of perfectly innocent people minding their own business in with them.  They don't even appear to have thought for a second who their response might have upset.  Because what harm can a bunch of loser geeks do?
So now the whole nest is stirred up.  People who didn't know about their legal chicanery do now.  People who disliked but ignored it now have a banner to rally around.  People who didn't care one way or the other now have not only a good political reason to oppose them, but I'm sure plenty are just pissed at the sheer schoolyard idiocy of it.  I for one had enough of that kind of attitude in high school. They've single-handedly seen to it that practically everyone who has ever been branded a geek, or chosen to wear the badge, now has a reason to dislike them.  Frankly, the Church has done more to stir public opinion against itself than anyone else possibly could have.

It might not be legal (is sending sugar through the mail wrong?  Even if it looks like Anthrax?), but I think it's admirable in this one case.  They're different from people trying to steal money, they're protesting!

I'd say that's not quite the same as "cracking" (steal from or somehow abuse others using electronics), but also different from "hacking" (pursue and apply understanding of electronics).

Anyways, you're not supposed to dropkick antiwar, environmental, religious, communist, or feminist protesters, even when they cause significant annoyance, these people can't be such a different case.

Maybe I should look up 4chan on wikipedia...  Nah, sounds bad anyways.

My only response.  Don't.

Scientology is an abomination that only exists to take the money of ignorant people desperate for a sense of meaning.  I realize that this could just as easily be applied to Christianity, but at least we give people a hope for the future.  As far as I know, the main focus of scientology is the removal of "body thetans", which of course costs money.  An honest question, does scientology have an afterlife?  I haven't done much research beyond the leaked info about Lord Xenu and all that babbling.

In addition, Estonia's shutdown couldn't have been that serious compared to Albania.  Albania was the victim of a pyramid scam that completely destroyed the economy, it's now one of the poorest countries in Europe.

Thetans are carried away from the body in vessels of numbered paper, though I've heard a thorough removal sometimes requires the use of magnetically-striped plastic cards.

<STRONG>Now just one moment here.

I have no excess of compassion for Scientology. Anyone who willingly believes in the rambling, absurdest tales of a modern science-fiction writer, or insists that the mentally unhealthy avoid psychotherapy with threats of alien mind control, is a dangerous and unhealthy person by his self. The illegal and immoral actions taken by the 'church' have only darkened them in the eyes of myself and much of the world.

That said, 'Hackers' are not folk heroes. They are the very scum of the information age, the source of virus-laden spam and identity theft. There are two differences between the 'hacker' and a back-alley thug; while the thug will take your watch, your wallet, and your keys, and possibly break a bone in the process he will do so face-to-face, frankly risking his life to what could be a well-armed civilian. The hacker, however, will take all of your savings, or near enough, and destroy your personal economy; you will loose your house, your car, your credit rating, and quite possibly your health insurance. And of course, he, with a greasy, acne-ridden grin, do this from his basement, hundreds, or thousands, or perhaps only a few, miles away, and you will not know, will never know who did this.

Recently, the entire country of Estonia was shut down by a cabal of hackers, nay, electronic terrorists. Please note that when I say shut down, I mean that every major business, bank, and branch of government short of the most isolated military segment was cut off from communications with the outside world and each other. And when I say that these people are terrorists, make no mistake; While I would never stoop so low as to compare the merely mild loss of communication, and the resulting stock market crash, to the value of the lives of tens of thousands of people around the world each year, These gutless cowards used the most basic principles of terror to do their work. They caused fear to force those who are more powerful than them to do as they wished.

The Estonia hackers (believed to be private Russian citizens) demanded only that a soviet war memorial statue be moved to call of their assault, by the way.

So all I ask is a little perspective behind that humble emoticon of joy. The enemy of my enemy (or in this case, the enemy of my triviality) is not my friend.

  :(</STRONG>

It seems as though you are somewhat confused about hackers. Not all hackers are bad hackers that can be related to a back alley thug. As a matter of fact the majority of hackers are good people that work to secure the internet and counter the intentions of the hackers that you are referring to. However your confusion is understandable because all that most people hear about or see of hackers are black hat hackers (a term for bad hackers). While in actuality there is a thriving community of white hat hackers (a term for good hackers) behind the scenes that work to keep the internet and peoples computers safe. However you never hear about these people because the media always focuses on the bad. I know this because I myself am a white hat hacker; the worst thing that I ever do with hacking is snooping around a website or computer out of curiosity without harming anything. I have never stolen money, harmed a website or computer, made a virus, or stolen anyones identity, and I find the actions of these internet terrorists nauseating. I say this in the defense of good people like myself that work to keep you safe from black hat hackers, take it as you will.

Mhm... And while this is going on, no one ever looks around and says, "Wow, this is ****ed..."  I find that hard to believe.  I think this is just a huge prank that all the Scientologists are playing on the rest of the world.

Scientology is just a fool's excuse for an Organized Religion.

Seriously, of all the religions in the world.  Don't pick one that promises a rich and glowing afterlife, don't pick one that allows the possibility of godhood, don't pick one that leads you to spiritual enlightenment.  Pick the one that charges $20,000 dollars for some bad sci-fi you could get for free on the internet.

The fact is, The Bible and Quran contain far more sillier things. Scientology is basically an earlier and deeper version of pastafarianism. It's a parody. It makes you think. If you hate Scientology, are other religions any different?

I believe this is the actual goal of Scientology, to destroy all other religions by the satire. Only the higher levels of their hierarchy know the truth. Xenu is actually a red herring.

As funny as Fox News' interpretation of the events were, I truly believe 4chan to be an internet hate machine.

YES!  It all depends on why you hate Scientology.  I hate Scientology out of pure envy.

Jesus founded his own religion but was executed before he could cash in.  I can't say I'd want to trade places with a martyr.

Muhammad gained his status through conquest.  I'm too lazy to be a general; if I have to raise an army to start a religion that's too much work.

But L. Ron ... L. Ron made up his own religion, made a killing selling it, and retired fat and happy in the lap of luxury.
Yes, I hate Scientology, I hate it with a passion, because L. Ron's millions of dollars and mindless worshippers should be MINE.  Oh how I hate Scientology while remaining largely ambivalent about other religions.
That should be MY wallet stuffed with the filthy lucre skimmed off of my faithful followers' hopes, dreams, and spiritual emptiness.  That's MY job and L. Ron STOLE it, just because he was born a few decades before me.
IT ISN'T FAIR!  I HATE SCIENTOLOGY!  (while remaining largely ambivalent toward other religions)
