Hahaha, "pathetic internet geeks" (or whatever).

How do these people dare say that in public relations?  The "pathetic internet geek" is the type of person who started up so many of the electronic technologies that we've come to depend on.

Way to make yourself sound pious.

He has a point, no one's going to take on a religion if its supposed devotees act just like the rest of the world.

Now just one moment here.

I have no excess of compassion for Scientology. Anyone who willingly believes in the rambling, absurdest tales of a modern science-fiction writer, or insists that the mentally unhealthy avoid psychotherapy with threats of alien mind control, is a dangerous and unhealthy person by his self. The illegal and immoral actions taken by the 'church' have only darkened them in the eyes of myself and much of the world.

That said, 'Hackers' are not folk heroes. They are the very scum of the information age, the source of virus-laden spam and identity theft. There are two differences between the 'hacker' and a back-alley thug; while the thug will take your watch, your wallet, and your keys, and possibly break a bone in the process he will do so face-to-face, frankly risking his life to what could be a well-armed civilian. The hacker, however, will take all of your savings, or near enough, and destroy your personal economy; you will loose your house, your car, your credit rating, and quite possibly your health insurance. And of course, he, with a greasy, acne-ridden grin, do this from his basement, hundreds, or thousands, or perhaps only a few, miles away, and you will not know, will never know who did this.

Recently, the entire country of Estonia was shut down by a cabal of hackers, nay, electronic terrorists. Please note that when I say shut down, I mean that every major business, bank, and branch of government short of the most isolated military segment was cut off from communications with the outside world and each other. And when I say that these people are terrorists, make no mistake; While I would never stoop so low as to compare the merely mild loss of communication, and the resulting stock market crash, to the value of the lives of tens of thousands of people around the world each year, These gutless cowards used the most basic principles of terror to do their work. They caused fear to force those who are more powerful than them to do as they wished.

The Estonia hackers (believed to be private Russian citizens) demanded only that a soviet war memorial statue be moved to call of their assault, by the way.

So all I ask is a little perspective behind that humble emoticon of joy. The enemy of my enemy (or in this case, the enemy of my triviality) is not my friend.

Do these attack only hackers or everyone who use the net? I didn't read up that much.
Nobody hates hackers and spamers more than me.

Hackers may not be a very accurate term for them - this protest being organized through a number of ordinary websites... youtube, something awful, facebook, etc.

These are not just any hackers! These are HACKERS ON STEROIDS! Turning the internet into a real-life videogame! Purchase a new security system, put up curtains, and buy a dog! And for gods sake stay the hell away from any yellow vans!

I have to agree with PTTG??.

I read the article, saw the word Anonymous, and thought to myself "Great, yet another pointless 4chan raid."

First of all, let's not confuse stuff: these people while they might have brought down the UK site have mostly engaged in the popular information stuff (like demonstrations and whatnot), if indeed they were the awful crackers (not "hackers", BTW) why haven't they stolen all the money from Scientologists or did something like that? because they are not who you think they are.

Bah, scientology. No such thing exsists, I know only of science! I hope these imposters get what they deserve! Well in truth I dont really care what happens to em, as long as they dont start advertising outside my house or something, im cool with their blasphemous mockery.

Im now going to do what the Irish do best! Remain neutral and see who wins, while secretly cheering for the evil hackers.  :p

Ahem.
1) Most of the people involved in this are not CRACKERS
2) Never confuse Crackers and Hackers. The people you are talking about are not hackers, though they like to think of themselves as them.

Being a Christian, I don't have any great love for Scientology, but then I also understand why people choose to uphold a religion. I know scientology has a lot of bad press (probably related to the fact that they seem to go about killing their devotees) and that their entire theology is based on the works of a sci-fi writer who swindled them out of $200.000.000, but I'm afraid I have to agree with them on one point. Every one of my friends who is enthusiastic about the Anonymous protest does fall neatly into the category of "internet geek". The pathetic is debatable.
