An ancient hold was reclaimed, but its troubles had only begun.

As dawn's twilight creeps its way across the valley there comes a force in the night with greed as its true master...

~~Chapter 1: House Warming Party~~

Builders were directed towards constructing workshops for the pair of Azunite merchants and the village seemed to calm down after the unexpected visitor's arrival. Night settles upon the village and gentle clouds form overhead. By appearances it promised to be a restful night, but mother nature is a deceptive harpy who only wants you dead.

The same youth as before came running into the keep, having been paid a fair wage by Klessen as a sentry for his hollering voice of which he was about to prove its value.

"Boss! BOOOSSSS! There's armed folks movin' a ways through the dark below an' they looked ta be headin' for the castle!"

"I see. You've done well, and sooner than I thought. Wake the rest of the retainers while I find the Baron."

Elsewhere another runner delivered a similar message with a tad more composure...

"Boss! Scouts are back with a report. Looks like there's only a handful of soldiers in the keep right now."

"Sounds like Red is still on his game. About this and the patrols. Ain't that a relief."

The elder man turned to a girl nearing the end of her teenage years.

"Alright Dani, just like we went over back at camp. We'll let the recruits soften 'em up and create an opportunity for us to move in. Don't get yourself too deep though girl. Your mama would kill me if ya got hurt."
"Yes papa. Do you think we'll be able to fight together alongside her and Ethan when we get there?"

"Well that depends Dani. If there isn't much resistance down by the village they could probably swing by this a ways and we can enjoy some quality family time while banging some rich Molvonian snob's head around. And wouldn't that be swell?"

The girl smiles and loads her crossbow while her father pats her on the head.

"That's my girl."

He turns to address his crew.

"Okay boys, you know what to do. We're hitting the keep while my lovely wife leads the raid on the village's stores. Red is offering us a reward personally for those two hostages, a reward as handsome as I used to be." The joke got a few snorts of laughter and likewise light-hearted remarks to the contrary. "Fancy pants Baron we can keep for ransom ourselves too, so don't be offing anybody whose butt is worth a pretty penny back at Westshire. Besides the lordling that includes the... hrm.. who were they? Eh I'll remember when we get there. Everyone else ya have free reign to make sport of if ya fancy gutting some Molvonian dogs this morning."

To that there was a great deal of cheering and Garro's crew went into action.

"Hey Ma, there's some feller comin' up out of them woods. Ya think he's a lumberjack?"

"Don't matter deary, the forward groups are about to head down there and cut that poor sap up anyhow. Be a good boy an' go down to the village with me to do some proper ransackin'."

She whacks him on the head with her broom and a scowl after her oaf of a son sits there wondering what it would be like to be a lumberjack.

"Yippidy boy."

"Yes mama..."

Move to 25W.

"As you wish, Mr. Mordecai."

Klessen heads into the Keep in search of the necromancer's weapon.

Trakri, who had been quiet ever since the taking of the castle, squints out at the enemy.
"Dishonorable. Sending so many men on such a weakly defended area."
"To battle!"

The old man, who had been grumbling quietly in his corner since the mention of his plays barring a few brief and rambling discussions with a servant, followed the others out of the castle at word of the armed band.  The old man peered out into the dusk, leaning upon his cane before he tottered over to the light-haired lordling.

Teagan to 26-W.

:"You there, boy.  You would be Baron Heston?"

He nods his head, forestalling the obvious response.

:"Likely you have a band of Brettian raiders on your hands.  Permit me to help you deal with these scoundrels."

:"Old I may be, but I know my way around the battlefield near as well as I do books.  After all..."

Teagan Performs Heston, lending him energy through an inspiring anecdote.  A spark shines in the old man's eyes as he draws his brief story to a close, giving the younger man a knowing smile.

:"You'd be surprised at what a tale or two can do for a man's strength."
