: "I mean no offense, but...I doubt you would be able to understand them. It is very high-level theory about the casting of magic without resorting to tomes. Even if you did understand the theories you would certainly not be powerful enough to put any of it into practice yet. Maybe not ever."

Even Mordecai, as asocial as he tended to be, knew that he was probably not making a good impression at this point.

[UXLZ]

Lilie shrugs, looking displeased.

"Just because I wouldn't be able understand it or use it doesn't mean it wouldn't be helpful. If not to me, to someone else."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Huh. Fair enough." The name wasn't familiar to her. "So you're an author... You a boring one like a historian or something?"

[Furtuka]

"Good, because I wont either!"

Charles easily sidestepped Acacia's lunge and countered, jabbing the lance into her side and following up with a strike at her chest.

Acacia jumped back and swept down to hit Charles on on the hip, before swinging up and bringing it back and then jabbing her lance into on his left shoulder.

[F.O.E.]

Charles knew his initiative had ended, but he wasn't going to back off just because of that. He brought the lance up and thrust it forward, hitting Acacia in the stomach and then swinging it into her side.

:"I wouldn't say that.  There are still some fine young auth-"

"Huh. Fair enough." The name wasn't familiar to her. "So you're an author... You a boring one like a historian or something?"

:"Boring!?  Why, my dear, I took two arrows in the chest whilst storming the walls of Silverrill when I was penning my Observations!  An T-ardú de Jaelun is, I am proud to say, considered by many the most compelling account of our kingdom's foundation to exist, even if I did knowingly take a few liberties with the events of the story.  And Wings Upon Dawn is, while fictional in parts, very much based on historical events!"

Teagan harrumphed, but after a split moment's silence, reluctantly continued.

:"But if you must know, I have dabbled in nonhistorical fiction before.  Those works never caught on quite as well, barring a volume or two of poetry and a few trifles which I consider best forgotten."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Having taken some arrows to the chest lately, I can at least sympathise with that."

"But I prefer more... lively stuff. Heroines saving princesses from dragons. Heroines saving dragons from princesses. That sort of stuff."

"Wait, wait! I do remember hearing your name before! Some travelling performers put on one of your plays! Was it Trials of Galt Whitman? You remember that, Mords?"

Teagan's eyebrows twitched in outrage.

:"As if history does not contain enough heroes and heroines, princesses and dragons, trials and"

:"Traveling performers getting a good thrashing for putting on another of those damnable plays!"

With a smirk, Vara said in a loud stage whisper to Tirena,

"I think he knows which one you're talking about."

"Are you a playwright, Mr. Leigh?"

:"No.  Certainly not."

"If it makes you feel any better, I couldn't see what was going on, but from what I heard and was told my condition was a mercy."

:"It doesn't, but thank you for agreeing with me."
