I think I'm looking forward towards Total War: Warhammer more than Attila, mostly because Attila doesn't seem to be that different from Barbarian Invasion.

Also the Age of Bronze mod. If only for the look of things as battles of the period seem to be more about outnumbering.

i dont understand people saying r2tw is better than vanilla rtw. while you might say its a bit harder, its still by far more buggy, less atmospheric and more streamlined than rtw even with all its patches and dlcs. if rtw had a smarter ai (smarter, not harder) it would be out of r2tw's league by far

anyway i think atilla is gonna be the same as napoleon; a patchwork game made to redeem a horrible one. not saying its gonna be fun, but its not going to be revolutionary. this is probably what an expansion to r2tw would look like if they made the game right

Surprised Rome is so liked, I haven't played it, but havent specifically because everything I saw for it was iffy.  Gonna have to check that out.

Will watch this as it goes, though.

The first RTW?
I'd imagine because it's the first properly 3D Total War and was arguably what really made Total War the strategy name it is today.

No, Rome 2.

RTW was magic, and the mods only enhanced it.

Rome 2 is sorta in the situation Empire was in. Empire was horrible at launch, but after a shitton of patches, it turned into a really good game. Just look at the steam reviews, with twice the number of positive recommendations and the same percentage as the original Rome.

Oh, it got better? Shoot. Re-install time! I'm really liking Rome II now, glad I stuck it out. (I didn't find it terrible at the beginning either mind..) I'm not sure about Attila, just because I feel I just got Rome, and it's such a similar era.... Would've been happier with a new Medieval or something.

I would elaborate that it was Empire that got that score :P

Rome 2 has about 75% recommendation (out of 20,000), compared to the 95% of the original (out of 2,500).

Still, Rome 2's good, especially with mods. It's basically a matter of if you are willing to pay for a modernised Rome, with prettier graphics and more campaign detail.

Yes as far as I am concerned

Rome 2 was a beta until "Rome 2 Emperor Edition"

after that update and renaming it was like it should have been...not perfect but way better than it was.

I look forward to Attila...whenever they rename it with a patch like they did Rome 2 :P

Meh, I don't really like the time period.

More interested in the upcoming Total War: Warhammer thing.

I agree...I have to wonder if they are just spitting out Attila to cover the potential costs/loses of the Warhammer version...it did come on the heels of Rome pretty quick after all

I haven't played Rome Total War yet, just some hours of Medieval I and a *tiny* bit of Empire.  But this:
Quote
"Attila is not fair. It is not reasonable. There are no pretty pitched battles against the Hunnic Empire. Attila is coming, and he will reach you, and you will have to deal with him. Yet the horde may seem endless, and certainly when possible they will push on you and strain you to your very limits. The real question is how will you survive against the Hunnic multitudes? Or indeed, how long?"

It interests me.  Even though it's probably BS.  The idea of a RTS where you're supposed to lose ground at all...
Anyway, posting to watch.

Well that did happen to some degree in both Medievals. Well would've if players didn't all just abuse the AI and camp at a bridge somewhere. Can't remember if Barbarian Invasion had a similar Hunnic incursion.

But it's definitely been done already, to some extent. I imagine they've tweaked or overhauled the whole thing from those times.

There is also the winter mechanic. But it might be a bit gimicky. I don't expect anything grand with that part.
