I dunno I'm not a huge nerd like you lot but I do listen to you on here, so...

Well it fit's in with Role-playing games better than others. I mean, it's pretty heavy rule-wise but if it's shit or not is up to someone that has tried it. Along with your group and DM experience wise. Playing with dicks wouldn't make a good time as one would expect from a group of well, dicks.

D&D has a special place in the hearts of many gamers. It's also the traditional go-to game and is generally the inspiration for any parodies of or homages to RPGs.

It also has a bit of a bad name from a combination of 4th edition baggage and those people who hate it for being popular.

Compared to what? GURPS? Paranoia? Warhammer 40K? Call of Cthulhu? Toon? Tunnels & Trolls? There's not much else of note in the category and D&D's the most noteworthy of them (although I guess some of those come close). Unless you want to contribute to the watering down of the term by including games that don't actually involve any form of roleplaying (all computer RPGs and D&D 4e).

I remember playing an interactive demo example for D&D for when I was new to the game, it was somewhere in the Wizard of the Coast official website last time I checked. If you do want to check it out (rules wise and such) I recommend searching around there.

Seeing as it's basically just 'Corrected 3.5e'.


On that note, yes, Tabletop Rpgs are a lot more fun when you're in person with the 'beer and pretzels' element.
But if you can't do that; go here.
There's others, but this is the biggest, free-est one.

No. They had a Wild Mage prestige class in Complete Arcane, but it sucked.

Huh. Well, from what I can see, they did not shit on Wild Magic in 5e.

Value of Subdued Dragons:
Subdued Dragons can be sold on the open market (going out of existence in the game) for from 500 to 1,000 Gold Pieces per hit point it can take. Thus, the Red Dragon in the above example would be worth from 33,000 to 66,000 Gold Pieces. Offers are determined by the referee merely by rolling a six-sided die to see if the offer will be 500 (die 1) 600 (die 2), etc., Gold Pieces. Of course the character or characters who subdued the Dragon could keep it in their own service or sell it to other players for whatever they could get

Hopefully 5e will have an option to sell dragons for profit!

I've always  just considered Pathfinder to be for all practical intents and purposes equivalent to D&D
