Let's go with the Javelins, Also look for a business sponsorship. Those were extremely common among Gladiators of the day.

That would involve you talking to your master, also you are 14 so you wouldn't entirely understand how that works.
Besides being crowd favored means you might as well be sponsored.
Also you can have any equipment you want so sponsorship would just be for anything outside the arena

Ok, noted. I think a net is great for a first strike, but javelins are sharper....

Nets are already barbed and weighted

also javelins can be used like normal spears or be thrown, you are more trained on using them as spears not as throwing weapons
though in such a short distance it doesn't much matter

What are the Deities in the setting and do they exist?

Not sure if I am putting dieties in yet but if I do they won't be important until several many victories (unless there is a set of dieties for begining gladiators but ya)
I'm thinking once you get about 3-5 victories (crowd favored/internal connections would get 3) you can start doing political things and order yourself around and get better fights and past 10 some important things will happen and probably past 15 would be when gods would come in, IE god of blood or god of the arena would grant you extremely special bonuses to fight higher level- also god favored fighters. might also make a system for saving up points to spend on the next gladiator instead of the current, points being like a skill buying system.
Though that will be later and not now

Just curious and wondering whether you're using the standard roman ones. We could scream FOR ARMOK every time we kill an enemy if we wanted to go with the psychotic cultist route, Although an Axe would probably be more fitting than a Trident for that.

We should try to train and work out during our free time and try to subtly learn what sort of Gladiators we might be fighting soon.

((outside of arena things will not be done until after 3  victories) this isn't entirly just roman, any weapons can be used. well Any real world melee weapons within reason)

OK.

Try to get our hands on some high-grade steel equipment.

No, no steel. That will just slow us down. We need a lighter armor. Dextarity is more important than protection! Stick with some leather armor.

I'm talking about weapons, Also with our crowd control bonus we need to get ourselves a gimmick and a catchphrase, Any Suggestions?

Maybe we should get some engravings on our helmet and some spikes on our other gear, You know, Drive the crowd wild. How about, "This Is Not My Arena, But I Won't Let You Have It!" as our slogan.

Thinking on things to entertain the crowd you walk to the entrance of the arena.
Standing outside the gate you run through your equipment
-3 short weighted javelins
- 1 trident, might name it, got me through one fight
- light leather armor.
- hardened leather helm
*heavy breathing* calm down man you won with no injuries last time you'll do good
You enter the arena as the gate opens and you see your opponent.

He has a large metal round shield and a spear, you can't see his armor or anything else behind the shield
The crowd goes wild
