Maybe I should go for the cavern.
There's no water source so the only hope for mist generator is the underground river.

I always check to make sure dwarves can at least handle stress a little, unless they're recruited for a suicide mission, in which case it doesn't matter.

Seriously, now do you guys dump all those goblin remains?

At first I chose two miners who were the happiest dorfs in the fort(-30k). But they soon got positive stress level, so I sent them back to their usual business.
The next year I chose 3 military dorfs who didn't feel anything witnessing death. But there were so many body parts. In the end I had to use all the idle dorfs otherwise it might take ages to finish, and I did't want rain and buzzards to torment the 3 garbage dumpers.

I'm thinking maybe you pave the area your dwarves most commonly fight the goblins at with bridges and link them all up to a lever and atomsmash the corpses. That would also atomsmash the goblinite though, so, might not be the best solution.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.
Unless you're past reproductive age. Then you're pretty much an extension of your kids' genitalia

One possibility might be to make a small group of dedicated refuse collectors, give them rooms in a separate and sealable part of the fortress and kill off the rest of their migrant wave when they first arrive so no one can tantrum spiral from their deaths, then if they refuse to distress just flood the sealed part of the fortress with magma, rinse and repeat.

You just need to take the useless dwarves least susceptible to stress, assign them refuse hauling and only refuse hauling, and have lots of nice statue gardens for them to wander around in while idling. Military veterans retired because of injuries also make excellent refuse haulers.
