Tournament, jousts, money, glory
« on: January 26, 2015, 02:16:00 pm »

Please first apologize for my English a little rough, I'm a French dwarf (Yeah french nickname)

Hello everyone, I thought about it the last time and I think it would be absolutely awesom to have tournament (Where the king could come to see yourself eat the ground). Like jousts with horses and other mounts (My brain need a turtle joust). And you could win prizes like money, artifacts or just glory.
This could give rise to a new role: The knight who travels the world in search of tournaments, money, women, fame...

I'm not sure Toady went with the medieval europe setting for humans. It looks more Scandinavian to me.

Of course, you can still have two men with shields and training axes fighting in non-mounted tournament.

Though considering the vast diversity of mounts, jousting is bound to not be on horses but more like grizzly bears (fuck yeah !) or giant lions.

Me and a friend examined some things and they seemed more Greek than anything else, though probably not intentionally based off of Greece, just ended up being like Greece. Anyway though I think it is planned to have tournaments in big cities eventually. When that's going to be added though is nowhere near though. The current plan for probably nearly two years has nothing to do with tournaments, and it seems kind of like after that is going to be the army arc which is also unrelated. Maybe during the army arc player controlled mounted soldiers will be added which includes adventurer mode then from there maybe he adds in tournaments and jousting seems like an obvious tournament type to include.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

Weird, I've been thinking of the dwarves as having more ancient Asia influences than anywhere near Europe. For one, they've got wootz-steel-working, which originated in both India and China independently of one another. They're prone to isolationist political philosophies, similar to unified China and Warring States Japan. They have an impressive grasp of mechanics that far outshines much of what Europe could do in the 14th century but falls very much in line with Chinese clock-making/seismography/etc.

It would be nice to see some sort of national/international competitions though; martial duels could be one option, athletic feats like the Olympic games would be neat too, maybe throw in some traditional ball-games similar to what was played in MesoAmerica. If it were procedurally generated, the types of games might depend on what traditions are already practiced and what resources are available. You wouldn't expect jousting to be very popular in nations that don't regularly employ cavalry tactics, and you likewise wouldn't see ball games being played without a supply of rubber trees to make the balls with.
