Eiji cautiously waits for Caliban to approach.

The robot does so and extends a gloved hand out of his back.

Eiji relaxes and offers his hand. "Eiji. Pleased to meet you, Caliban."

They shake.

"Estimated strength of Eiji's relationship with Caliban: 50," says Caliban.

"Oops," you say. "I left some debug statements in."

"Fifty, huh," Eiji says. "What's that out of?"

"Estimated strength of Eiji's relationship with Ada: 77."

Eiji laughs nervously. "I wonder how that's calculated," he murmurs.

Caliban looks to you. "I think we will be friends, Master."

Is "Master" all right for what Caliban calls you?

1) Yes. Classic.
2) No, Caliban should call me by my first name.
3) I prefer "Sensei."
4) A simple "ma'am" will do.
5) I'd like to type exactly what my robot should call me.

You decide to encourage Caliban to be an individual, not your servant. "Please, call me Ada." (+Empathy)

"Yes, Ada."

"I'm impressed by how far you've come," Eiji tells you. "I didn't know your robots could speak."

"These are still mostly stock phrases I programmed in," you say. "I need to train him to speak for real soon."

"You should show Josh," Eiji says. "He'll be so excited."

You shrug. "Maybe I will," you say.

He gives you a kiss, which ends up turning into several kisses. He grins.

Then an idea strikes Eiji: "Hey, are you interested in coming along with me to a volunteering event?"

"What's it about?" you ask.

"It's teaching science to elementary school kids." He points at Caliban. "You could show them Caliban! That would be perfect!"

Now would be a good time to show Caliban to Josh, to see whether he's interested in funding his further development.

1) I should show the robot to Josh.
2) "Sure, let's go help some kids together. I don't know much about kids."
3) I should fix the little things I noticed during the demo before I forget.
4) I should probably get a new phone in case Mom wants to call tonight.
5) I'd rather start teaching Caliban words.

2. The robot is essentially a kid. It will understand them!

Eiji seems pleasantly surprised. "You just finished your robot, and you're willing to drop everything to come with me and teach kids?"

"Yeah," you say with a shrug. "What can I say? I like hanging out with you."

Eiji gives you a kiss for the compliment.

You keep Caliban running, cradling him with one arm as you make your way to the local library with Eiji. It's a typical, pleasant, sunny day in Palo Alto, and you wonder what it's like to be a robot looking up at the blue sky for the first time. Caliban appears particularly interested in the palm trees lining the path to the garage.

1) I teach Caliban words for things as we pass them.
2) I ask Eiji how he's adapting to Palo Alto.
3) I just hold hands with Eiji and chat about nothing.
