Am I the only one missing the old gems?
« on: November 24, 2007, 11:21:00 am »

I find I liked it better when you just got "diamonds" or "opals"; simple, easy-to-understand, and familiar. It just doesn't feel the same when I see "You have struck Dendritic agate!". I guess there's a point when realism is a bit too much.

Discuss.

I guess it's to differentiate stuff more. Different Opals are different colors, for instance, and different values sometimes.

I prefer much more this way, 'opal' , 'diamond', is boring.

I find it better how it now is, even when I can believe that this is not everybody's cup of tea.

English isn't my native language and so I don't recognize most of the names for the different ores (Well, I don't think I would even recognize most of them if they were in german)

I find myself often wandering off to the english wikipedia and looking for the newest stuff that my dwarves dug out and often I marvel about how cool some of these ores/stones/gems are looking and how it would be cool to make chairs, weapons, bracelets, windows etc. out of them... It adds very much to the game IMHO.

I like the way things are now. I need to look up a lot of the stones and ores. The game is a learning experience  ;)

I miss getting diamonds, rubies, and rock crystals at all, but the diversity of new types doesn't bother me at all.

Getting diamonds is fixed by my diamonds mod - see modding forum.

Maybe Toady is educating us about ores and stuff, so I like it this way.

English is my first language and it seems as if im as lost as you too with the trips to wikipedia and all.

In response to Teldin: I personally prefer the variety because it helps to keep things fresh and gets me thinking.

Also like it this way, the fact that dwarves know the difference between all these stones just by looking at them makes perfect sense! I'm sure Elves know all the little variations of wood types there are   :D

Hrmm. That got me thinking, maybe someday in the future they'll use DF to teach prospectors in mining corps.

Not to mention the ores.

Tetrahedrite ftw. The name alone wins.
