That sounds unbelievably lame, but heck I'm probably stuck here so I might as well stick around. Screw with shit. Not kill people. The works.

To be fair, the black hole is quite interesting. Read the files on it.

But then I'd be reading, I could do so much more than that. I can express the futility of finding the meaning of life. Which would really be easier than reading any files about anything.

(How hard can it be for an AI to read something, especially if it's hosted in the same place as it?)

Indigo punches one of the communications buttons that the ship most likely has.
"AI, could you give us fleshy being an explanation for all the malfunctions? It's getting annoying and I can't tell a nerd to fix it."

"I appear to have accidentally given birth. It's exploring its environment. I've restricted its access."

It will take you effectively no time whatsoever.

Indigo stares at the speaker. She tilts her head and raises a finger questioningly. Finally she sighs and pushes the button again.
"Could you please tell all crew members that giving birth until such a time where it is appropriate, like when on shore leave, is not allowed? Also, punishment is not going to occur retroactively for those that have given birth."

Staring at the only star visible is an option. Maybe see if you can locate a gas giant in infrared?

Sounds simple enough. Attempt to locate a gas giant, as suggested by the S5 (Pretty sure the only other AI is an S5)

Those with the know-how begin scanning in wider areas around the star, looking for more objects. With different people looking for different things in the same data, they could sweep faster, though it would still take a while to cover a good area. Only two hours into the sweep, though, the sensors picked up something rather unexpected: an incoming transmission. After a few seconds of listening, it became clear that the content was a single message simulcast in 16 different languages, each one a widely-spread interstellar dialect. There was some slight difference in parsing between the different versions, but the general meaning seemed to be:

Welcome! Greetings!

Your albedo is very high and we saw you from so far away. We know you will respond to/react to/be enticed by our radio signals.

Maybe it's an acronym? Or a name? Or an acroname, acronyame? I'm just messing around with words now MIKE said over his frail, but only just physically possible link to the other AI. You do not want to know how many times I've had to jump. First from electrical wiring, to the system controlling that wiring, to the various other links until I found you guys.

(Note: can't really do acronyms, since this is all translation convention. It's not the actual letters P R A I S E. It's something close to that verb, in 16 different alien languages, though it's still ambiguous.)
