((I still have issues with the fighter pilot crap in Mike's backstory. Fighters Do Not Work In Space At The Immense Ranges Needed To Preform Combat. Space is not an atmosphere. It's nonsense to treat it as such. Space does not work that way.))

OOC: It could have been a pilot on a planet rather than in space or A planet with limited technology that still relies on dog-fighting. Or maybe he knows how to pilot ships in general and knows how to aim laserguns at relativistic speeds

Lets use the ancient naval art of training war parrots. No one will realize they have been boarded by space war parrots until it is to late!
You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

((Given how he's been brought along to pilot shuttles, the most logical combat role would be either an atmospheric fighter launched from a space platform, or someone who gets troops from space to the ground.))

or maybe he could have bean a suicide scout pilot (used when both ships know there is another ship somewhere nearby and need to know its exact location sooner than the enemy so they will be able to shoot first)who somehow miraculously survived.

"The psych eval is nice and all but I`m afraid I need to return to my duties. Although I did hear something about a lollypop, do they come in a meat flavor?"
"Of course. Also do you consent to hosting some of my nano-machines." A squelching sound is heard and from the desk emerges a lollipop with a brown wrapper and then the section of the table immediately under the lollipop extends towards Ra'Sara offering it to her.

"Also Shamus and Michael, first I want you two to get to know each other through the mission, try to work together and trust each other, and if you're willing you could do a trust fall."

((If any one wants do do the eval, now would be the time. Also the evals , as you might have guessed, not really evals, they're just a way to add and flesh out peoples characters if they wanted. I just wanted to make this more than Google Simulator 2015.))

((That's only something that happens when ships aren't engaging at obscene ranges. Aka during the transition from close up ranges from lowtech civs to the obscene ranges of hightech civs. Hightech civs would have the sensors required to locate enemy ships from across the system. The issue is getting close enough to have a reasonable firing solution.))

"Shamus, you're a scientist, right? Maybe I could shuttle you to one of the asteroid things orbiting the black hole and we could get some samples? Or something like that?"

"You do realize that samples would not be of any scientific worth whatsoever correct? Samples have already been taken. Many times. By many species. They're just rocks. Also you are registered as a Backup shuttle pilot. Not a primary. The shuttle is not a toy."

((Well, I'd say it's not so much he's only allowed to pilot it if the other can't as that the other has more skills than him. Given his background he's probably somewhat more capable of a pilot, it's just that he's specialized in it.))
((Only a small amount of the orbiting chunks have been sampled, since they are vast in number but very very far apart. Similar to such objects orbiting at the edges most normal star systems, they are quite icy. Sampling more would actually provide new data, but given your trajectory it's probably not possible. Collecting samples requires rendevous, which means fuel-expensive reverse burn to orbital velocities.))

Cathelyn, wearing their humanoid suit, knocks at the airlock to the Psych Eval room.

Is this where the evaluations are being held? I have some interest in the matter and wish to be evaluated as an experiment, as it were.

"Can I go now Makai? Shamus can have my lollipop."

((You mean that videogame that you tried playing with people online but it's sorta completely physically impossible because there aren't any FTL comms in this universe and when Hugo pointed that out you didn't acknowledge it and continued anyways?))
