((More reading, looks like elliptical galaxies are also likely to have core black holes. I retract that bit.

I would like to point out that in an entire page of results from scientific organisations, the only one which flat-out says definitively "All galaxies ( Instead of 'most', or 'almost all') have supermassive black hole cores" is a headline in an article from the Daily Galaxy. And even they hedge their bets by appending "in normal galaxies" in the strap line.
There is nothing about a galaxy which intrinsically requires a black hole - they work both with and without. (Although one article of all the ones I dredged for this silly argument did mention that the reason you find black holes in the center of galaxies is to do with the fact that black holes were so prevalent at around the time the galaxies began to form).

I'm now cross because I was only partly right and that annoys me. But I did find out that black holes can be less dense than water, apparently. No idea how that wikifact works.

((Wait. Blackholes can be less dense then water? How does that even work? Aren't they supposed to be superdense?))

((Let me look that up again. It's late and  I'm writing on a phone.))

Edit: From "supermassive black holes" on Wikipedia.
Quote
Supermassive black holes have properties which distinguish them from lower-mass classifications. First, the average density of a supermassive black hole (defined as the mass of the black hole divided by the volume within its Schwarzschild radius) can be less than the density of water in the case of some supermassive black holes.[4] This is because the Schwarzschild radius is directly proportional to mass, while density is inversely proportional to the volume. Since the volume of a spherical object (such as the event horizon of a non-rotating black hole) is directly proportional to the cube of the radius, the density of a black hole is inversely proportional to the square of the mass, and thus higher mass black holes have lower average density. In addition, the tidal forces in the vicinity of the event horizon are significantly weaker for massive black holes. As with density, the tidal force on a body at the event horizon is inversely proportional to the square of the mass: a person on the surface of the Earth and one at the event horizon of a 10 million M☉ black hole experience about the same tidal force between their head and feet. Unlike with stellar mass black holes, one would not experience significant tidal force until very deep into the black hole.

Sagittarius A has a schwartchild (help autocorrect can't spell that) radius of ~10 light days. That's a lot of space to put that mass into, I guess.

((More science notes: as I meant to point out earlier, event horizons are perfectly spherical. This is because they are not actual objects but rather regions of space. Stars and planets may flatten out due to spinning, but event horizons don't, because they are not composed of anything.

Saying a black hole has "density" is somewhat of a misnomer. The actual black hole, where all the mass is, is infinitely dense; it's all compacted into literally a single point. The event horizon is not the black hole itself. Rather, the more mass in the singularity, the greater its gravitational pull, and thus the greater the region around it from which not even objects moving at C can escape.

Note: the Scharzchild radius is also different from (and much smaller than) the event horizon radius. The S. radius is the radius for which a certain amount of matter, if compressed into a sphere smaller than it, would become a singularity and collapse to an infinitely small point.
Disregard, I'm not entirely sure on this one.))

so what are we waiting for before we enter the dark star?

Lets use the ancient naval art of training war parrots. No one will realize they have been boarded by space war parrots until it is to late!
You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

((Basically to actually enter. It will take at least 5 days for the ship to hit the event horizon, so if you want to do any science/system checks/other actions, or say you did some research before embarking, now is the time.))

Systematically go through all the systems and ensure there are no damaged parts/potential failures/other unpleasentness. Make sure the dumbai controlling individual systems are fully functional and uncorrupted. Ensure everything vital is suitably hardened. Scan the estimated entry point in the darkstar for any potential complications.

A three-toned soundbite plays on the ships intercom then quickly after a deep synthesized voice sounds out. "This is Makai, the ships psychotherapist and second in command,"
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
"It is my job to make ensure that this ship's crew is working at 100 percent efficiency both physically and mentally. It is greatly recommended that the crew meet with me before we begin our expedition to the Dark Star in order to set up a basic psych eval." Promptly after the voice stops talking the three-tone sound plays in reverse and the announcement ends.

Indigo sighs.
"And here I thought I wouldn't have to actually interact with the nerds beyond discussing entry..."

Indigo sighs and gets up to go get her psych evaluation.
Upon seeing Indigo enter the empty office Makai separates into 3 parts. One part forms into a simple grey desk and another a simple grey chair designed for her biology, the last part transforms into a small black cube on top of the desk with the "eye" on the side facing her. She notes that the eye emits a flicking blue light whenever it's voice modulates. "Welcome Captain Indigo, please take a seat. I hope the walk here was pleasant. I want you to know that you can say whatever you want without judgement and what you say will stay between you, me and the ship's audio sensors. Well lets get started with a simple question. Why are you on this mission?"

Indigo sits in the chair after a doubtful look at it. She turns to the box.
"Well, I'm an expert at historical weaponry, I'm good in a scrap, and I enjoy learning about other cultures. Oh, and I felt violent urges towards unbound of my race and didn't want to go to jail for murdering one eventually."
