((Technically, since you can travel at FTL with a ship, why not information?))
((We've been over this. The method of FTL requires the drive, and thus transports objects with mass, rather than purely EM signals. On interstellar distances, this makes "snail mail" a faster way of sending information.))

And I thought I'd get along swimmingly with kevak.

((Though I don't like to enable the bickering all that much, Kevak's in the right here. FTL comms aren't a thing in this setting. The GM himself said FTL comms aren't a thing in this setting. Once in the planning thread when I assumed the same thing ED did, and for the second time in this very thread:

((We've been over this. The method of FTL requires the drive, and thus transports objects with mass, rather than purely EM signals. On interstellar distances, this makes "snail mail" a faster way of sending information.))

I refrained from saying this earlier, but this really does seem like Not On The Same Page Here: The Game. That's what you get when you fail to provide a setting, I suppose.))

EDIT: ((GM ninja! And with the same quote, too!))

OK, It's just that smaller particles such as com waves etc. should accellerate past FTL faster than larger things. BUT: In order to stop a de-rail, I will withdraw from  the whole FTL comms thing. Although:

"So Shamus, want to go play some Split screen co-op in space Ace?"  ((no online multiplayer, but in my first IC post, that was with AI teammates? OK? ))
((Also going back a bit but:))
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

((Can the GM add an overview of what has happened so far into OPs))

((warp drives? making shortc- Oh wait, that probably would require weird stuff1 and tremendous amounts of energy.
1According to Wikipedia, negative mass.))

((The thing about FTL: Comm waves travel at one speed and one speed only: the speed of light, and have no mass. Saying they should go faster than light easier than things with mass makes no sense, because technically neither of them should go faster than light at all. From a physics standpoint, FTL makes no sense. The only reason it even exists here is so this story can happen on a reasonable time frame.))
((Also: not much has really happened yet. The ship has launched and reached the Dark Star's SOI, crew have had some talks.))

Actually modern physicists are actually thinking that there are some flaws with relativity, I will ask my teacher for a link next physics lesson, but I'm pretty sure they've gotten a singe atom to go FTL IRL

Also my own paradox (copyrighted BTW) relies on four facts
1: Black holes can trap light with gravity
2: Light travels at the speed of light
3: In order to be affected by gravity, something must have mass or density
4: At the speed of light, mass becomes infinite (theory of relativity)
Thusly, light has mass and travels at the speed of light, because they have mass, get trapped by a black hole, thus defeating the theory of relativity

((The key to getting along with me is don't ignore things stated multiple times, even if you disagree, just acknowledge them. Otherwise I'm pretty easy to get along with~))

((This setting doesn't have known methods of FTL from what I understand. WeirdstuffTM would likely be required for warp, among other things. Comms are actually theoretically harder to make FTL since they're massless. In the setting, mass is the only real way to FTL. And it appears to have a minimum mass limit. Throwing another curveball in. Since it needs the mass to accelerate to relativistic speeds. Then jump. Then slow down.))

((Smaller things would be considerably harder to speed up. It's the same reason fighters are worthless. A larger ship can hold larger engines and more fuel. It can move faster then a small ship, and for longer. Technically a battleship should be able to outmanuver a fighter. It'll cost more fuel sure, however it's a great example of why fighters are only good as missile delivery systems. Which can be handled by drones.))

((You're incorrect with the atom FTL thing. That was what they thought was a tachyon. And it wasn't FTL. Was quantum entanglement at 0.15 Kelvin. Physica stops working at that temperature, which is why it did it at all.))

Dang. What about FFBR (four facts break relativity)

Also found the link

ANYWAY, another derail. lets get back to the game/story

((Yes. And, to be honest, I did feel like you were ignoring my posts. Which, in an RP, is not a good idea, especially with the GM.))

1: Black holes can trap light with gravity
2: Light travels at the speed of light
3: In order to be affected by gravity, something must have mass or density
4: At the speed of light, mass becomes infinite (theory of relativity)
Thusly, light has mass and travels at the speed of light, because they have mass, thus defeating the theory of relativity
((Gravity affects massless objects, as it bends space itself, which affects anything passing through said space. It's just that only objects with mass seem to distort spacetime. So, light doesn't cause gravity, but it is affected by it.))
