((We upgraded him to engineer because having someone who's only skill is repairing stuff would only be useful in the event the AI fails. That doesn't necessarily mean robots, but it does mean he can know how to analyze tech and design machines to solve certain problems. As stated before, presumably the company gave him some high-end training as part of the settlement, then sent him off to be rid of him.))
((The center of the ship contains more than just the manufactory and essential systems. Some of the labs are located there, due to some lab work benefiting from 0G, as well as presumably his sleeping quarters))
((It should be noted though, that since the ship has been accelerating the entire time (until now) to build up speed for the FTL jump, everything in the ship would have experienced a pull towards the back. So I suppose until now he has been unable to find somewhere aboard without any significant G-forces.))

YOU MEAN THERE WAS A PART OF THIS SHIP THAT HAD ZERO GRAVITY THIS WHOLE TIME!!!

Shamus facepalms with all 4 arms, just barely missing his eyes.

Ah well, what I was saying was that since you'll be trapped on the mother-ship for the whole trip you won't be able to come with us when we take a shuttle to any hypothetical planets we come to so if we end up in an emergency you'll probably at most only be able to provide instructions via comms while I'm actually capable of physically being there as well as having the expertise to carry out whatever instructions you might give us.

As well as coming up with my own plans although anyone can do that.

Lets use the ancient naval art of training war parrots. No one will realize they have been boarded by space war parrots until it is to late!
You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

"And how, say you. Do you intend to construct these robots in 'emergency situations' offship and without the use of the Manufactory or parts produced from said mamufactory?"

good point, currently none of us have the means to build robots on planets that we crashed on. Thankfully I just got an idea for how we can solve that and I will come back to you about that after my Psych appointment.

"Actually, you are done for now. Please inform the next Life Form that the room is available."

"I also work as a manufactory. I could make stuff with regular matter."

"You require raw material. You cannot synthesize specific atoms on demand from base matter due to the energy costs and heat production of such processes. If you are on a metal poor stellar object. You will have severe difficulties with production of anything."

"Yeah, the key would be to not be on a metal poor object. Also I did state that regular matter/raw material would be needed. Also why can't we just bring raw material from the ship. "

((Wait, did we ever include anything for atomic synthesis? I know the ship's fusion powered, but that's mostly hydrogen (and possibly helium), since fusing anything heavier is a lot, LOT harder.))

((We have a very large manufactory/refinery system.))

((Presumably the manufactory is capable of 3D printing, though it would also contain equipment for many other tasks. Since, for instance, more conventional metallurgy would be better suited to making (relatively) large, strong structures.))

NEXT Shamus didn't have time to ask for a lollypop.

Shamus first tried to fly to the manufactory. He failed. Anyway Shamus now had a mission in his mind, to prove that he wasn't useless. After all he wouldn't have been chosen as Eugenocorp's contribution to the dark star if he was useless right? Anyway, the first thing he did at the manufactory was create a miniature blast furnace (well as miniature as possible) similar to one that was used in ancient days. He then wrote down building instructions and disassembled it. He then put the parts into (a) crate/crates and labelled it/them furnace. Next he grabbed an extra saw, a hammer, nails, 20ft of insulated copper wire, solder, solder gun, wire-cutters screwdriver, wrench, a welding mask, and a welding torch, and put them in a crate labelled tools. Next he made moulds for nails and screws of different sizes and put them in a bag labelled moulds.

All of this of course went on in his head, he was not going to suddenly do that without asking first, it might be considered a waste of resources and then he would be thrown out the airlock.

So what do you guys think of my plan, basically what this allows us to do is that it allows us to process metals on planet rather than on ship. We can find any metal, then put it in the blast furnace and then use that refined metal to make robot parts, the only thing we would need is microchips and motherboards after that if we wanted to build a robot.

Nijaed: although I think this has conventional metallurgy covered, right?

((Presumably space-faring engineers would have more tools on-hand than just a blast furnace, which would enable them to do stuff without hammering away like ye-old-blacksmiths, but preparing kits for engineers on away missions sounds like a good idea. Though, like anyone else, he wouldn't always be available, Salibr could probably serve as most tools, especially for fine-scale work (like electronics). Other tools would be better for molten metal stuff.))
