Hey, here's a thought.

Rather than saying MY CHARACTER IS 10,000 TIMES (Or whatever) MORE INTELLIGENT THAN YOURS, just... have them on an equal footing with everyone else?mit certainly makes them easier to roleplay.

After all, Kevak's character is 'smarter' than the entire rest of the crew times several hundred, which leads to all sorts of problems with role playing a being that is further in mental capacity from you than you are to an ant.

Also, how exactly do you quantify '12 einsteins'?

The above is not a complaint about existing silicon players. Rather, it is a general point against saying MY CHARACTER IS SOOOO SMART YES?

Let's keep this simple. Intellect is shown in action--not by statistic. That is the pure danger of using only quantitative analysis to form a conclusion...it misses out on a lot of things.
Like attitude, or EQ. :P

But yes, show and not tell. Many people and characters have a ton of potential not written in their sheets--and are not limited merely by how much is written in their sheets; they can do a lot more.

So! Shall we get this rolling?

I might have to drop trying to create a metal-based lifeform, actually. I'm in way over my head in this, to the point I can't even create a character to my original plans. I'll create a new character using someone else's race, give me a minute.

The thing is, I actually have experience Rping and writing for/as post singularity organisms and AI. Obviously I can't do it perfectly since I can't fathom how they think compared to my mind since they're too smart to realistically comprehend. However I can do my best to emulate what is likely or seems plausible.

Insanegane, my AI are on an exponential scale. Not a linear scale. Ten times smarter then Albert still isn't exponential.

Get a calculator and write 10*10 in there. That should be 100. Now do 10^5. You'll get a significantly larger number. That's exponential. The first is linear.

Sorry, kevak - word ate the second part of my post, in which I actually pointed you out as someone who seems to comprehend the difficulties in doing so, and how to get around them/play them well. No offense meant.

My time also runs short. Damn you, time zones.

They have taken one of our brothers, lets us have a moment of silence. Followed by hours of furious yelling.

Whew, I'm sorry everyone. I planned to do this right after I got back from the movies, but it turns out a 6.6 mile round-trip on a bike is enough to make me pass out for two hours on the couch, which I did not plan for. Let me just collect my faculties. The first game post be coming.
