I used T-Search. In the main menu, search "3500." as a float, change that to whatever and start a new character.
It doesn't work while playing, because it'll just make you have 0 credits.

Thanks.  I'd like to try some of the more expensive ships, but I'm not too keen on grinding up the credits to get there.

I gave this game a shot, and I found it slow, awkward and shallow.

Escape Velocity: Nova is pretty much like this game, but larger universe, actual story lines, WAY more ships, more fixer type missions, more trade goods, and in game ability to figure out where to drop off trade goods, with lots of different special trade goods to do so.

Though we here at DF community arent one for graphics to make or break a game, but well done 3d models turned into 2d sprites with various nice do dads, like running lights.

The twitch combat doesnt feel so stiff as it does Privateer. A fighter is stupidly fast, and if you pilot well enough can take on anything with the proper ship outfits of course.

The only thing that Privateer has over EV:Nova, is entering ships, and walking around planets. While, that is a cool feature, from my play through just slow down game play more then it gives in something valuable.

Bump for glory!

Also this game had a few updates since anyone posted last but right now is in hiatus as the developer is working on a new game (which he wants money for, the monster!).

Gripes are that it's very much grinding and if your going to do personal combat you will almost definitely need to be saving and loading after dying lots, however to be fair the grinding gripe pretty much applies to all the spaced based open world games so I can easily live with it.

However it has nice pro's that it has a personal combat as well as spaceship combat so you can not only blow enemy ships out of space but instead board them, capture the crew as slaves and steal their cargo without most of it being blow up if the ship blows up. It also has quests which can be created by other people and you can run to get interesting scenarios to appear, perhaps even a full fledged campaign.

The combat is fairly fun but the system can seem a bit clunky as you can set the game speed from super slow to super fast in a 1-9 range and you will be needing to alter the game speed as sometimes in combat you need to slow it down to react quick enough and then conversely you will need to speed it up out of combat to make travelling through lots of star systems less of a chore. The personal combat has an interesting ranged mechanic which requires lots of manual aiming and lots of luck but allows you to aim your own shots to decide whether you want to headshot the enemy or shoot their arms to try and disarm them or their legs to slow them down.

Still overall I would say it's quite a fun game but does suffer from all open world space sims of being grindy until you get to a level where nothing is really a challenge, but luckily if you get to that stage in ascii sector you can make quests to create your own challenging challenges.

This game is great, and the website finally opens for me again! There was a period of about a month where I couldn't download it...I'm pretty sure the house I'm usually at is IP banned or something from using their website, it's really weird, none of the computers in that house could open the site without a proxy. Going to play this again tonight.

* Iceblaster hopes he isn't bumping uselessly

So I have downloaded and am having a bunch of fun.

While I haven't gotten into personal combat, from what I've read it sounds interesting. Space combat however is interesting. Turning around to have your shields take shots when your front is down is fun, and so is shooting down that pirate's back shields when he goes for a u-turn.

Currently playing merchant, still have the starter ship, thinking of playing mercenaries guild when I get enough capital for another ship.

I really like the music along with walking around in the interior of your ship.(it's so cute looking :) )

If this is a non-worthwhile necro, let me know, but I didn't think making a new thread as this was, at the very most, a few months old.

I'd say most people prefer bumping old threads rather than making new ones in this situation, but I'm really just couching my own bias as common practice.

Game looks neat tho. i think i tried this out a while back
