If you had ye olde cloke/robe, would you wear it in public?

Here is an example picture:

Spoiler: more (click to show/hide)

There seems to be a general trend away from these sorts of things -- notice how the greatcoat and trenchcoat, similarly long, flowing clothes -- became less popular in recent years. I adore the style and wear long, flowing coats with defined tails whenever possible (especially in winter) and am thinking of putting together a full cloak out of old, unfitting clothes. They've become the subject of ren faires, SCA, and general cosplay, but in reality, they're much more functional than your average Legend of Zelda cosplay outfit. Has the function and style of the winter coat succeeded the original winter cloak, in your opinion? Don't like the stares you get? Don't like looking like a Game of Thrones groupie? DISCUSS.

I think I would die if it wasn't Halloween and I wore that in public.  I'm a bit shy though.

The last one wouldn't be so bad. Hell, put it in jet black and without the furs and I'd wear it casually.
Would it make me look good on a thin frame, though?

I like these kinds of coats, actually! Not least because some of my favorite protagonists are clad in them. I actually was hoping to get one for the holidays last year.

Longcoats for life. I dunno about cloaks, but I can attest that wearing a great big longcoat on a thin frame gives you a lot more presence.

That's a viking cloak. It does look a little odd on extra thin folk. For example:

You can imagine this guy hopping from rooftop to rooftop like batman, ridiculous cloak billowing in the night.

Hmm... If I had a cloak, I might wear it occasionally in public, but probably not a lot. I would want to, but shyness and my sister not letting me leave the house wearing a cloak would probably stop me.

DISCUSS

Back when I used to ride a motorcycle I had an ankle-length leather trenchcoat I often wore. Looked about like this. It was warm, and offered protection from both wind and roadrash. Did attract funny looks when I showed up to school and work wearing it though. And I never had it waterproofed, so it gained a lot of weight when it rained. I think it was something like 12 pounds dry. Never weighed it wet, but maybe 20.

I've occasionally thought it would be fun to have all my clothes custom tailored, and incorporate capes and anime-scale shoulder armor into the designs. I've worn capes, and they're very comfortable. Unlike cloaks, which tend to get in the way. Though shoulder armor does too, actually. Don't have a picture of the costume handy, but I went to Wondercon as this guy last year, and the armor made it difficult to walk through doorways and sit down. Couldn't drive while wearing it either.

Yes, I would wear attention-getting non-conformist clothing on a daily basis, but it would need to be functional, and not a nuisance. A lot of cosplay wear is too much of a hassle to wear regularly.

I would.  I'd wear it hard, and use it to justify wearing even more.  :P

Maybe when it's cold out, or when I ride my moped. I kinda wear my jacket open when riding anyway, for comfort and flexibility, so I'm familiar with the wind's effect on it. I also kinda feel badass when riding like that, despite the fact I'm riding a moped. Something like this would probably fit my style more. Plus, have some pockets on the inside to hide a flask and such as I wander about.

When the warm season hits down here, a beach towel is equally effective. Just make sure to know what's printed on it. Kinda hard to feel badass with a Tinkerbell beach towel worn like a cape to cool/dry off in the heat.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.
