))RoaryStar, you forgot to mention what our movement range was -- i.e, how many tiles we can move in a single turn.

Action: I walk 2 tiles north, and pick up and equip the spear. I then search the room I am in (like any furnishings that may be present), then put my ear to the door and listen for any movement (and also look through it, if there is a window). If I can't search the room and listen at the same time, I instead prioritize listening at the door.

))Also, Nidilap, here's a tip -- the room you are in is said to be lit by a torch. If you can get some distance on the zombie, then wrap a length of cloth around one of your arrowheads, dip it in the fire of the torch and launch it. That should do the trick, since I don't think you'll do much more than piss it off with a piercing weapon.

5 tiles per turn, normal speed. If you're sneaking, prone, or running, it's different. If you have higher agility, I'll inform you when you can move more tiles.

We'll be using 1.5 distances for diagonals, so two diagonal movements counts as 3 instead of 4 or 2.

I have nothing against it.
I never actually thought of that, even.
Though he'd have to do it really quick (high dex), or the zombie would catch up. (~3 tiles/turn)

))You say that he noticed the zombie, but did the zombie notice him? Their senses are known to be quite weak. If Nidilap had just rounded the corner in front of the torch and spotted the zombie, it may not have sensed him yet. Should you roll for that?

The zombie is only three tiles away from him, and they possess an extraordinary sense of smell. If Barry wasn't sensed, what was?

Take the dagger, wield it, move to the door, check it for traps, disable if I find any and carefully open the door and peek on other side.

Do daggers use melee skill or swords?
