You seem to have the tags confused. 

I had to look it up myself to be sure I was looking for the right thing.

The first number is the foreground color. The second number is the background color. The third number is the color intensity.

Theoretically, there are 4 shades of greyscale available. Black, Dark Grey, Light Grey, and White.

As I pointed out, I dug through the raws for stone mineral (Not the layer stone color value, which lists wall colors and the like.) and gems do not list any (normal) candidates for dark grey.  I am fairly certain that all gems have the intensity value set at 1.

Black would have color value 0:0:0

You really do need dark grey if you want to have greyscale images. Black just wont look right.

I just checked in the Inorganic_Stone_Gem raw. There are no gems that have [DISPLAY_COLOR:0:0:1] (Dark grey).

The only item in Inorganic_Stone_Mineral with that color tag is Slade.


To get dark grey, you WILL have to resort to modding.

I see.
Maybe I can use dark blue or red to make the background.

Just want to let you guys know, I've done half of the picture.
I choose green glass gems for the background because I can make infinite of them.

It looks like the dorfs is mining in vomit.

Apparently the dwarf was kicked in the stomach recently and has only just started mining again after the creature that did so was killed. That's the only way you can get a dwarf to mine in a pile of their own vomit.

That's not vomit, that dwarf is on the surface, digging into the whisker of Armok.

... well, seeing how hard cave adaptation hits now, it _may_ be vomit after all.

The animation is amazing. Very impressed. Can't stop watching it....

But I couldn't help wondering about the cluster of tables, chairs, and a statue, at the top of the room there. What are they? A storage area? A really strange dining room?

It was the raw glass that cost most of the time. Because 1/3 or them became large gems, I had to wait before add another job in the workshop.
I don't recall how long did that take. I think it's about 8 years in game. It could have been much faster if I had a larger population. My 1x1 fort had 20 dorfs. I didn't use magma furnaces so I had to wait for the trees to grow back and imported logs and coke from the mountainhome.

You are right. This level has a dinning room and a storage area(gems and finished goods).
All my dining rooms have similar layout:

There are 4 talbes, 4 chairs and a statue(or other furniture) in the middle.

I added a small dining hall. So the dorfs can actually admire it.

Gem cutter: I can't believe we spent almost 20 years to create this thing.

If you are looking for fully black square in vanilla DF I got some when some of my walls in construction got hit by a cave-in. See http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=8716 . It seems to be caused by the visualisation of black cave-in sand.
