Movement (of any kind I believe) is 1 turn. Any action considered taking a considerable amount of time is also 1 turn :P
So I believe that is possible. Or, y'know, charging forward and picking it up on the way may be one action too (though it does seem to be both Move + attack).

I think you can charge forth and defend by using your sword to attack its attacking part.

Pick up more - three, maybe? - swords, and stash them in inventory. Equip a second sword again.
