Super Mario Bros. 3 and Cataclysm: DDA.

I... uh...

I've got it--Bowser wins, and leaves the Mushroom Kingdom for new lands to conquer. You have to survive in a world eerily mimicking World 8 of SMB3, becoming stronger and stronger through daily training and book-reading until you're prepared to track down Bowser and exact your vengeance.

Undertale and Aurora 4x. Again.

You play as King ASGORE  Dreemurr. Many centuries ago, your people, the monsters, fought against the Terran Federation and lost. You were defeated, and forced back into a single system, and an ancient artefact used to seal the jump point, trapping you away from the rest of the Galaxy forever.

Now, you must lead the ships of your people against a terror from the black depths of space, the Invaders. While capital ships thunder in the heavens, endless storms of plasma against the enemy. In the midst of this confrontation on an apocalyptic scale, lost explorers from the Federation arrive by means unknown, with dart-like vessels with deadly capabilities. Their vastly-advanced ships weave and dance with incredible grace, while yours fill the sky with a shadowing wave of ordnance.
You must survive and save as many of your people as you can, while reverse-engineering each downed exploration vessel further and further, until you discover a way to break the ancient Barrier, and make the Federation pay for the eternity of endless war they have sentenced you to.

Age of Kings and Might & Fealty.

Basically M&F, but battles are resolved on an AoE map in real time and it's possible to micromanage your economy more.

Touhou Project: Hopeless Masquerade and Liberal Crime Squad.
It's the Shinto vs. Buddhism vs. Taoism war, except they now shoot actual bullets. But that's okay because the youkai can handle it, the Taoists are immortal and both humans have plot armor. Also, Kokoro uses a flamethrower sometimes.
