Considering XCOM supposedly had a good ipad port, I'm not worried about that part of the news.

Hopefully it's something fun.

It's enough to give me iPad envy, that and how much better minecraft PE is compared to a iphone.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Doesn't Sid himself mostly just tinker with odd little projects like this and that Pacific WWII game these days, anyway?

Believe so. Apparently the designer of NewCom went and had a nice chat with him that really helped him get a good direction going, but I haven't heard of him working on anything officially since forever and until now.

I hope the game has depth and is not just a casual timewaster. I mean, casual timewasters are fun too, but I've been itching for a good strategic space game for a long time. There are several promising ones in development - like Starsector - but yeah, they are all unfinished.

The announcement got me excited since I was (unreasonably?) expecting Sid Meier's Pirates! but in space. I pretty much lost all interest when I found out it was a TBS which may very much be a mobile port. :(

There is that type of game in making called Rebel galaxy.

It would be nice to see an original project from Firaxis for a change.

No, they need to remake Covert Action.

They do, but IIRC Sid-man himself was not terribly fond of it.

posting to follow.

I am interested in what an aaa study can do out of the FTL/tiny trek concepts. Sid vision occasionally bomb spectacularly, but he knows how to get people hooked.

After the disaster that was BE (it somehow managed to disappoint me more then civ5 did, which is sad) I'm skeptical.

The fact it's going to be a stupid mobile game ported to PC makes it even less likely that it will be good.

Maybe if sid meier himself is actually working on it, it could turn out ok, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

The Grox were easy to kill. I just nuked all their cities on all their planets.
