Look at the vending machines and see if they have food in them.

The man stays sitting on the ground.
You walk up to a machine and notice there are a couple bags in it and a few on the back of their coils.
The drink machines, you are unsure if they still have anything in them or not.

Try breaking the machine's screen by bashing it with the stock of the shotgun, the machete's handle and blade. If no visible progress is being made, look to see if there is furniture in the room.

after several bashing a with the stock, almost cutting your arm off with the machete after it bounced off the glass and a few hits with it's handle the glass is slightly broken.
There are several couches and chairs strewn about

Try smashing a chair against the vending machine's glass.

You grab  one of the chairs, it seems to have quite a bit of weight to it. You walk over and bash the chair into the vending machine making quite a bit of noise, the skinny man gets up and trys to stop you as you hit the window one last time shattering the glass.
