Share how your first fortress was destroyed.

Here is Mine:
I had a wealth of about 19k wealth and a 14 man army with a small corridor of traps and drawbridge.
A tribe of 10 Goblins raided my fortress about 2 years into the game. They were lead by a goblin hammerer with about 1 or 2 archers.
I sealed of the entrance immediately and left my livestock who were to slow to get in out to die.
Once I counted off the goblins I decided to open up and let them in so my 14-Man army could get some valuable XP.
About 9 dead goblins and 5 dead dwarves later, It was just there leader and my remaining scrubs left.
That one goblin defeated my entire military.

After that I quit the fortress because my embark sucked and I wanted to get a new one started.

Didn't know you could farm on sand. Abandoned because of food and drink shortage. :D

I think that this is where this thread should be:

That said, my first fort died to crundles after I accidentally dug into the caverns.

My first fortress was for the museum game, it was horribly inefficient, under manned, and had no iron or flux to work with. I ended up just saying fuck it and unleashed the clowns.

Not sure if dying of old age is an honor or a shame for weaponmasters. On the one hand, it means they never got the opportunity to die in glorious battle. On the other hand, it means nothing could beat them in glorious battle.

My first fortress at least that I remember, had probably the best location for a fortress I've ever had. There was lignite, magnetite, and flux stone everywhere, but I had no idea how to play the game back then. As a result I had pretty much no defenses and my fortress was pretty much just a hallway. In the end it was defeated by a necromancer attack that managed to jump into my fortress through the small outdoor farm i had been trying to roof over, but hadn't completed yet and didn't have any doors blocking it from the rest of the fortress.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

My first fortress? Followed a tutorial, my only security was plenty of doors. Too bad I didn't know about Hatch Covers, since my fort went straight down.
My first goblin ambush killed all my dwarves, since I didn't know how to equip or train soldiers. Of course, kobolds were stealing artifacts and mastetworks by the dozen before that. I just had my  dwarves try to punch them.

Originally took an interest in the game because of the possibility of 'digging too deep'.

The first thing I did, upon figuring out how the interface worked, was heading straight for the Circus.

That was quick.

Mine fell to goblins. I had no idea how military work, how to set traps, how to use drawbridges and I was far too busy with preventing a starvation to have time to build an infantry.

I trust I am not the only one who lost their first fort to not understanding stairs properly.

...actually, that may have been my second fort. I don't think my first ever fort actually ever fell. I stopped playing it out of boredom and because it was very sub-optimally laid out.

My first fortress still exists.  It's in 40d, and I haven't played it in several years, but I still have the save.  IIRC, I ran it from 2008-2011 before I stopped playing it.

Wait how did that even happen?

Oh ... nevermind. Apparently the one year old Kivish Ilidcatten is strong enough to take on a GCS. I don't even...
