Grey Goo- new RTS by the guys who made End of nations

Was surprised nobody posted on this so here's a trailer and it comes out on the 23

/Edit

the game's comprised out of 3 distinct factions in a sci-fi universe (assumingly), each of which play very differently.

Goo faction: use no resources but rather use their own hp in order to split from the Mother goo (main base).
example for goo faction gameplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkQXOxe4TLE&feature=youtu.be

Human faction: use a moduler building system to tech and make units (very interesting concept).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Re_OnJdmzJA

Beta faction: somewhat alien faction that look like a bunch of 4 armed humans, they use guerrilla tactics i think.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od0dg2mC93c

take note that most of the footage is pre-alpha and thus can't be an entirely reliable source.

my thoughts: the game seems like a medium speed pace RTS, somewhere between WC3 and SC2 IMHO.
there's a decent difference of micro intensiveness between the factions.
i think the game shines in the way that each faction plays differently from each other.

The trailer looks good, but the cynic in me says that most trailers do, and this is just another rehash of Starcraft with different races.

I'll admit, I'm curious as to how the Goo plays most of all. Completely inhuman factions intrigue me moreso than others. Leads to a bit of fridge logic when you think of how ineffective a kinetic slug would be at disrupting a homogenous liquid; sure you rip a hole in it, but it just clumps back up and is ready to go.

Main post could use a bit more than a YouTube trailer, though.

The main damage would be the shockwave the impact caused in the liquid; assuming it has cells (which the Goo certainly do, in the form of NANOMACHINES, SON) then the shockwave severely damages those in a significant radius.

Looking at a gameplay video, it seems to be another Starcraft in disguise. Which is terrible.

Actually, any heat based weaponry would work. Nanobots, being tiny molecular structures, have little to no capacity to absorb heat without breaking apart.

Thing is, grey goo would just go and salvage the shot AND the 'dead' nanobots, and produce more.

The only things that would work really would be EMPs and (going into sci-fi) energy weapons. The first because... well, they're in all likelihood electronic. EMP would just destroy them. The latter because it leaves no salvageable materials after you shoot.

This is a common oversight I see as far as nanotech; unless it uses some sort of magic level science, it's still required to obey the conservation of energy. Rebuilding destroyed nanites would require energy but wouldn't provide any, and therefor would be at least somewhat detrimental to the goo. Comparatively, goo building more of itself out of plants or animals (or people) would be able to harness the energy of the building material. That's probably the reason the goo in the trailer isn't building more of itself out of rocks.

The premise (when I heard it a year or more ago) sounded pretty interesting, but IIRC they skipped the beta they were planning to do and are going straight to release, so I'm regarding it with guarded caution.

Eh, I watched (part of) a developer playing a few matches.  The gameplay looks uninspired and repeatable, a LOT like a Starcraft clone.  They clutched the novelty of the idea of "the grey goo, but in a game" and then built just enough of an RTS to be playable, and then said it was godo enough.  Units are essentially identical to any other RTS, which in itself isn't bad, except when you're hoisting up one of your factions as an actual nano-swarm, in which case they should probably be a bit more... I dunno, is 'attention grabbing' the right word?  The mother goo is sorta unique, but that's the only thing that kinda makes the goo different from a traditional race, and the way the mother goo works actually appears to be a hindrance to the goo's power.

For the game being what it's trying to be, it just doesn't look that catching.

This game is pretty similar to Earth 2160 by the looks of it.

I mean the morphidians are pretty much ideal goo counterparts. Especially in later patches where they lose their air units and became vaguely balanced.

... yeah, love me some grey goo I do, but looking at the TB videos linked this is just generic RTS X^50. Uninspired and uninteresting, unfortunately. I've played enough copy-paste RTS clones over the decades to not really want another one :-\
