I am not reading any nitrogen compounds there...

We got enough of an atmosphere here to make the atmospheric flight modification worthwhile?

Volcanoes or the crater seem like the best bet, every area is damn cold though, we need a sufficient water source to run fusion to heat.

The crater we can eventually build a giant dome over the entire crater and build an Earth life atmosphere.  Seems more realistic then my asteroid impact idea.

(I am totally in denial about how screwed we are.)

I think the crater is a few kilometers across...

Okay...

1. Pressure is fine. Its just like trying to land a plane on an airport 5000 ASL on earth. Okay, that means we need a landing strip of 10km or more, but aerodynamic surfaces still works at these pressure.
2. We are royally screwed by the lack of free nitrogen, oxides of it, or nitric acids. Our only hope for any nitrogen is Ammonia, which might be present in some quantities.
3. If we have no free nitrogen available we better move our asses on...

Good point. If we can't find any sort of nitrogen present in any form, I'll agree to turn around and hit up Eri-IV

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Any chance we could knock together a rather simple weather sat and dump it out the airlock?
Sure, however, it might not function long, and it won't do much more than take pictures. Also, no altitude control thrusters, so you'll have to change the entire ship's orbit to get it where you want it.

I think the crater is a few kilometers across...
More than ten, actually. It's quite big.

In System travel will take a few months. In addition, recovering a sattelite is hard.

Nitrogen possible be found around vulcanic vents, or locked up in ice and minerals.

Well those other worlds are totally dead from what I can see, there has to be some form of nitrogen on this planet, even if we need to extract it from rock.  This planet seems far enough away from the star that it may not have lost much during it's formation and may have more in it's crust.  The only issue is that ammonia emissions are not coming from the volcanoes, so some process must be removing it from the atmosphere.

I will support either the volcanic ridges or the crater wall putting the survey satellite in an orbit to scan that area first before the rest of the planet.

So you're going to wait on sat data? Anywqy, update tomorrow.

Nitrogen or harvest nuclear fuel.

I say, one month to do a preliminary scan of likely landing sites near the crater walls.

Then land if nothing major pops out.

And only if there is evidence of Nitrogen.

Update 12
May 2084. Epsilon Eridani-3

Quote
Launch Survey satellite: Investigate crater  [12]

Assembling the Survey satellite piece by piece in the Discovery's airlock was not an easy task, and took longer than originally expected. And apparently, was also less qualitative than expected. Despite the checks the crew did, the sattelite's main comm array failed to deploy, meaning that it was relying solely on the less strong auxilary array, which resulted in significant problems for the amount of transmitable data.

Nevertheless, from what you succeeded in gathering, you can paint a slightly better picture of the crater area. The crater floor is made up primarly of molten rock, with underlying deposits of  impact breccia and a mixture of other hard, high density debris. Water ice has been detected in the sides of the crater, though the satellite has picked up no trace of nitrogen compounds (most of which would actually be liquid at the temperatures present on the planet). Then again, it's a survey sattelite, not a system designed to pick up chemical traces.
