If you want lore, read lexicanum. I have most of it's 40k content memorized by heart.

So many neat-looking Warhammer titles getting announced lately ^_^

I just hope that this is an actual tactics/strategy game and not a MOBA. I really wanted to like Stellar Impact, but...

Warhammer Quest is ridiculous moneygrubbing, hope this doesn't follow the same mold.

No Necrons either, but that's almost to be expected.

Yeah...from what I remember about the fluff, Necron ships are basically nigh-unstoppable. Like the World Engine.

Tyranids would be an interesting change of pace though.

Even if it were a Splinter Fleet. Would be hundreds to thousands of ships.

Soooooo maybe a Swarm Mode would work?

Try not to die?

Well, more than that (Being expensive and hard to stop is sort of the theme with the race), from what I remember about the crunch Necron ships were added rather late, and this was back in the era where everything they touched was stupidly unbalanced.

Exactly. Plus Tyranid ships would be using different tactics than the other races. A lot more melee-oriented IIRC with Space Tentacles and stuff.

Under the actual rules for Battlefleet Gothic the Nid ships are indeed very melee oriented, if I remember them correctly the Tyranid's hive ship actually has an attack where it takes a bite out of the enemy ship. I know it has like six tentacles that it just shreds the other ships with.

I feel like space combat in 40k is extremely lopsided.

Everything in the 40k universe is lopsided, except when presented in most of it's games.

It's that way by design. There are only two things really stopping a ship in 40k space combat from being 1 shotted: void shields and mass. Weapons in 40k vastly outpace defensive tech, because the way they've envisioned space combat is that your whole ship could be obliterated in one shot.

In the case of capital ships not sporting Nova Cannons and shit like that, fights can drag on for a while. But smaller gunboats going against each other, once those void shields are down, one well placed volley can cripple if not outright destroy a ship.
