The best thing to do would be to try and keep clear of him, she decided.

Random Prediction that may or may not have any basis in fact:
We're both going to be trying to avoid each other due to the heavily messed up recent past, but to the rest of the group is going to misinterpret it as romantic interest.  This will lead to the characters getting caught up in a web wherein they are trying to avoid each other, but the rest of the group will be trying to force them together.  This will of course lead to Nathan having a slip of the tongue that reveals the whole collapse of her gang was due to one screw up on his part.  May lead to an attempt to kill him, which if the admission is missed, will lead to a misinterpretation as belligerent sexual tension.

Might wind up getting a kick-start if the two accidentally run into each other in the waiting room and then having a stammered conversation.  Might be worsened past that if the characters dueled in the finals/semi-finals/top 8.

Huh. Are those some of the decks Kansa's built for the opponents? If so, and there are still undecided decks, might consider a dragon deck with stuff like Maiden with Eyes of Blue and Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon - would fit pretty well into the kind of decks being run.

No :p. I have designed most of the decks that you will be facing though as well of sort of a boss deck for the tournament, I probably will include a dragon deck at some point.
