do you have to wait for people to chat with you about someone before being able to ask their whereabouts?

first mission was to bring a package to Ray (lols about that starfleet official delivering stuff officially to a criminal organization hideout)  and went there and that guy wasn't there.

instead there was someone else, which I assume worked for that organization, I randomly friended him because I'm just a nice guy, however never I found an option to ask if he knew the guy I was looking for

(also my wife has children as two dots relashionships, but at least she loves me XD )

You do have to wait right now, but you won't have to in the full game.

At the moment the conversation options are limited: I haven't had time to add more complex interactions yet. It'll go in the beta soon!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This starts to sound preachy.  Why is that what happens specifically, instead of any of a hundred other possible outcomes?
Scarcity based capitalism will tend toward post scarcity, when it enters an environment where the supplies can match or exceed demand. The solar system, has de facto infinite resources. Many many many times the mass of the Earth. Consumers can only consume so much.

Demand places stress on supply. When supply is less then demand, then the price of the supply increase to regulate its use. This places incentive to find new supplies to lower the cost of the supply. In the solar system, there de facto infinite new supply to exploit. This means that the cost of supply, will be lower, and matching demand. Through this, input, throughput and output will be increasing in efficiency as they have been, since increasing efficiency in any of those steps lowers the cost of bring the supply to demand.

When supply and demand match each other, the cost starts to become nulled. As there is no stress on supply, to aggravate its price. And since demands are all met without issue, the materiel cost also start to become null.

found that girl I was looking and delivered the package! yooo 10 space bucks!

There's a ship quite cheap for rent, 400 bucks upfront, so I can be spaceborn in less than 15 packages delivered!

instead I spent nights and days at bar and befriended the whole Tokyo populace (which is just click click click, need some difficulty here).

is there any family related costs or one can just live in bars forever?

Nice :) try heading to the bank if you need money a bit quicker than that...

well it's hard to tell off from the beginning how profitable getting a ship is, if I'd be able or not to repay a loan back. the cheapest one is quite affordable so it's just little grind needed

what about costs tho, where do they show up?

The costs show up once you ask about the details of the l once you ask about the details of a loan.  Ship hire costs should be on the main page.  Make sense?

yes, I saw the cost in the menu where I can get the loan/ship, I was wondering after I got a ship/loan, where the recurring costs will be indicated?

Once you've taken a loan/mission/hire you get a new "deals" tab in your profile which lists all your current obligations. You also get to see the terms in the conversation before you choose to take the loan.

Hope that helps!

I've managed to get a new demo up and running, with new smoother graphics, very nice lighting and a start on the combat

All the details are in the update here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/852671098/sol-trader/posts/1382382

With just six days to go and 70% funded, it looks like it might be a tight finish :)

I wonder how much being "greenlit on steam" actually hurts crowd funding.  People who might thing "I'll just wait until I can buy it".

Certainly, major products like Shadowrun, Wasteland, these gigantic properties that are going to bring in millions... I dont feel like I need to support their crowd funding campaign when I can just wait a year and pick up the gold version or Directors Cut or whatever.  I'll just buy it when its a product, and if they manage to waste millions of dollars on rockstar style big-studio game development (I'm looking at you, RSI) then I'm glad I didn't contribute to that.

Probably, some people have that same attitude with indies.  On the one hand, saying that "we are already on greenlight" makes the investment more concrete, someone can say this risk is more likely to pay off for me.  On the other hand, people might just choose to wait until they can buy it.

Not sure how one might study this effect.

I think you're right. The release date is soon enough that people could just wait, and I did mention that the game will come out anyway. I need to pay for art though, so things will be a lot tighter...

I'm thinking that if it doesn't get funded, I'll open up the beta via the website (credit card and PayPal) and keep the Kickstarter discount applied for a short period, to allow people to transfer their pledges over...

Backed it!

I wonder if the name Sol Trader is making this less appealing than it otherwise might've. A lot of people like the idea of space, but Sol Trader kind of implies you mostly just trade, and I guess that might turn some people off. I know that's what's been happening to me - I look at the name and go a little "meh", and since time is so scarce I hadn't really bothered to read up more on it.

Any plans for the world to be particularly dynamic, with factions, territory ownership change, etc? Or is the plan to be mostly playing in a world full of dynamic characters 'till you get the best ship? :)

Thanks!

I know what you mean on the name, but it's a bit late to change it now: I've done too much marketing and it would be rather costly in terms of brand awareness.

There will be factions, definitely. At launch it'll be static control of territory. The gameplay progression will be rather more about getting to know the best characters and running important missions. There are plans for faction/territory dynamism but it'll be post-launch I think.
