By the way, can we make gear acquisition tests while onboard?
Technically. What, right now?

Well, lasgun is trusty and all, but in that very situation where I was shooting at large group of people I feel that full-auto firing mode would come in handy. Autogun has that, unlike lasgun. Also bullets have Plentiful rarity, which makes them even easier to acquire than lasgun charge packs.

I don't insist on obtaining one right now, though - I have to finish shooting the bad guys. It might be better to get to the frontline first before asking for supplies.

Well, you'll certainly get more misses.

Yeah, but charge packs are re-usable.

Yeah, but charge packs are re-usable.

Well, the number of hits depends. And how exactly do you charge a charge pack? I'm not quite aware of that.

You can do it with fire which will reduce it by half capacity each time, or you uh ... I think you basically plug them into an electrical outlet.

Quote from: Rulebook Page 192
RECHARGING POWER PACKS
A reason for the large number of las weapons in the Imperium is the relative abundance of ammunition. Las power packs can be charged in the field from most power sources. Characters may make a Tech-Use Test to successfully charge any power pack if there is a suitable power source available. The time the pack takes to charge is determined by the power output of the source and is ultimately up to the GM, but typically takes several hours. Alternatively, power packs can be charged by placing them in an open flame. This, however, takes at least a day and permanently reduces the Clip Size by half (this only occurs the first time it is charged in this way) as well as removing a las weapon’s Reliable Special Quality, or giving it the Unreliable Special Quality if it was not Reliable to start. Each time a pack is recharged in this way there is a 30% chance it will be permanently rendered useless.

Also Techpriests can get their own methods.

Got it. I'll try to acquire autogun and a crate of bullets anyway when I'll have a chance.

After this mess, I suppose. Talking of requisitions, I'm reminded we still don't have a Favored Basic Weapon because we don't have Weapon Specialists. I think bolter gun was one of the possibilities at least one person voted for since it's a projectile weapon.

Given you are our platoon officer, you have pretty high logistics rating (30), so it's up to you to make requests and assign granted weapons. And yeah, bolter is a nice choice for basic favored weapon.

Given our regiment doctrines, I'd say either Long Las or Melta would probably be best.
Bolter not so much, given a) it's a pain in the arse to get ammo for (the melta is worse, of course, but you also need much less ammo for it), b) only Commissar/Weapon Specialist/Heavy can start with the right training (again, also an issue with the melta, but you really don't need (or want) many of them in the squad), and c) fluff-wise it doesn't really make sense as the kind of weapon that would be issued en-masse to a (newly discovered+founded, not yet proven) Feudal World regiment.

Melta is also a good choice. We should probably vote.

It isn't necessarily en masse since the Weapon Specialist class from OW is basically a guardsman that has proven himself competent enough to be handed specialist weaponry. It's part of the reason why an OW squad is "close to elite" compared to an average guardsman. Having the melta gun as favored basic weapon doesn't mean every greenhorn in the regiment has one to spare, and the importance of bolter weapons was kind of shot down when someone had the bright idea of saying the Astartes' version is different anyway.

Also: give me the mechanics and I'll give you the backstory behind their reason to be. The "why" can be rather easily handled.

The GM could open a poll.

Sure, let's go for the Semi (or Full?) Burst. I couldn't check the book, so I figured it wouldn't have automatic options.
