Your table seems bare, aside from two glasses of water. The table to your left seems to have several files and papers spread out neatly upon it, though.

"Ms. Nali..."

You can feel an answer is demanded of you. Struggling with your words for a moment, you blurt out "I move for a mistrial! On grounds of amnesia!"

The blue-suited man sighs. The woman in the black robe continues staring at you, now biting her lip. She doesn't seem impressed. "Ms. Nali, what do you think-"

"Please, your honor," starts the man in blue, looking up.

"Do not interrupt me."

"Permission to speak, your honor." He unclasps his hands.

"Granted. You would do well to keep decorum for the remainder of proceedings."

He nods, saying "Duly noted," and rises. "Your honor, I believe she is telling the truth. Having known Ms. Nali for some time, I can attest that she occasionally has problems with her memory. And... the... stress of this situation, I think you might agree, would be very unhelpful in that regard."

Ask whoever looks most like our solicitor what's going on.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Pick up both glasses of water and chug both of them at once.

Ask the judge whats going on.
Ask whoever looks most like our solicitor what's going on.
You're reasonably sure that the woman in the black robe is a judge, but you can't really think what a solicitor might be off the top of your head.

"Can someone please tell me what's going on here?" you ask, looking around to see if anyone will answer. Then, feeling flustered and parched, you seize both glasses of water on the table and drink them down. Everyone seems to be staring at you yet more intently as you set them down. "Remain seated, Ms. Nali." You hadn't realized you'd stood up.

"Your honor, I request some time to speak with my client," says the man in the blue suit.

"Very well." She still does not look impressed, but she bangs her gavel. "Recess for the defense to consult. You have ten minutes."

The man nods, and rises. "This way," he says. You stand up as well, the room seeming to spin around you, but you follow. You're not sure how exactly, but you soon find yourself alone in a small lobby with him, his hands shaking ever so slightly as he closes the door behind you. He looks you in the eyes. "Venra... listen to me. This is very important. I need you to tell me truthfully, what do you remember?"

"Nothing..."

"N-n..." Suddenly, he steps forward and wraps his arms around you, resting his head on your shoulder. "Oh god, Ven... I'm so sorry... I don't... this isn't... I'm sorry, Ven..." His voice is cracking.

"Can you just tell me what's going on? Did I break the law or something?"

The man steps back, taking a breath. You can see tear-streaks on his face. "Okay... you're on trial here today. They're accusing you of Misbehavior before the Enemy, Dereliction of Duty, and Conduct Unbecoming of an officer. And some other minor charges. I don't think you did it. Any of it, Ven, but... if you don't remember anything, how can we prove it? I tried to help, I..." He stops, taking another deep breath. "I'm trying. I'm going to help. I promised..."
