Appearance: A short man, standing at about 5' 5". Mar is what most men would call robust, he is heavier set but also well muscled from years of labour. His hair is a reddish brown, and it is well kempt, including a beard and extravagant mustache. His eye is brown, and over it he wears a monocle to keep his vision sorted, as where his left eye would be is a burnt husk, although he covers it with an eye-patch when in company. His clothes would be high quality, but due to hard times he recently fell on, they are tattered and worn.
Background: Born and raised in Republic City, to a firebending father and mother, Mar is a proud captain from humble beginnings. His father started their trading company which was successful in the early days, After years the fleet of trade ships reached nearly 10. However a slew of pirate attacks between Republic City and the water tribes, and some business ventures that fell through saw the company fall into a massive decline. Desperate to save the company Mar's father equipped what airships he had left with weaponry and set out on one last trade route. Three ships, the smallest commanded by Mar, The largest by Mar's father, and the third by his fathers trusted business partner made one fateful trip towards the north pole. Expecting the worse in pirates raids the ships were well prepared for attack, but not so prepared for the great storm that befell them, two of the ships were destroyed while Mar's only survived due to it's agility. Upon returning home, his mother was devastated by the news of her husbands death and fell into a great depression, and secluded herself from anyone. With only a small lightly armed ship at his disposal, Mar used what was left of the companies funds to refit the damaged ship and began to delve into shadier business, smuggling. On many occasions he ran afoul with pirates and local police forces. In one such skirmish a pirate firebender blasted his left eye to smithereens. With little money to cover the treatment and smuggling becoming increasingly unprofitable, he turned a blind eye to his past, and looked into mercenary work.
Skills/Abilities/Traits: Proficient Firebender: While not the best firebender around, Mar has had some training, but most of what he has learned has been from the school or hard knocks. Amateur lightning bender: Mar had a little training in lightning bending before his fathers company fell apart, he trains to keep his skill up but has never reached a true masters level. Skilled Swordsman: Years of fighting and sailing have made Mar skilled with a cutlass. Captain/Navigator: Mar has a knack for piloting and maps, his obsession with cartography has gathered him a huge number of air, sea, and land maps. Combat Style/ MO: Mar is an aggressive fighter, and uses a mix of bending and his cutlass to keep an opponent on the defense, never letting the enemy get their guard, however he is not completely useless on the defense, but it is not his strong suit. During his free time he spends his time training, eating, and pouring over his maps.
