What's the strangest objects you've used for casting purposes?
A few weeks ago, my fan broke, so I used a stiff piece of paper to generate a wind for an aeromancy spell I was casting.

Hey guys, did some actual wizarding!

I've been reading about optimisation procedures on the net. Did you know that most fairy winds blow from the southeast on odd numbered days?
Anyway, I broke off a branch from a willow tree at the witching hour, snuck out of my house, and then used the branch as a wand for casting a light spell. It was a pretty simple one, but it made a really big spark at first then it just made the whole place glow purple.
Wizardry is the best. I would have had to bargain with fifty demons and hell knows how many devils to get an effect like this solo and it wouldn't be as quick.
Of course, now I have to learn how to do magic at times other then midnight, the 13th hour, or whenever I'm on a fairy ring. Stay tuned!

BTW, what was the first spell you guys cast?

I can't find any fairy rings myself and the 13th hour generally busts my 12-hour alarm clock. Midnight is inconvenient so any help on the first front would help.

First spell? Probably one of those cryomancy spells. Can't remember especially, as all I was told after waking up is that my attempt at making fireworks for the New Year had created a glacier on top of Glastonbury Tor with me wedged into the side of it. Should have started smaller tbh.
Any ideas for beginners?

A Lesser Rune of Light, if we're including those.
If not, Spark, which is just that, creating a shower of sparks via rubbing your fingers. Useful for lighting fires, not much else.

That really depends on where you want to go with your magic later on, honestly. Do you want to be a fire mage, setting things on fire like there's no tomorrow? Or maybe you want to inscribe runes? Something else, perhaps?

...There is so many ways this could gone horribly wrong, using unprepared branch. It is no short of miracle you managed to cast spell and even greater miracle it didn't do anything worse. Count yourself lucky, boy, and next time prepare your materials properly.

That's such an outdated attitude. Not every wizard needs to be carefully sorted into classes like this is Final Fantasy or something. Next thing you'll be telling me that all witches need to ride on brooms and wear long black robes.

Hey, I don't need to spend half a week fretting over spell ingredients just so I can call myself a wizard.
Besides, it was just a light spell. Worst thing that could happen would be some git getting woken up by the sparking lights.

That's what I meant by the something else.
The fact of the matter is, though, that if you for something like, say, runes, you will have to specialise to do anything other than dabble in them, as each carving/drawing/painting/etc. has to be very precise, otherwise you end up like me.
And about that worst thing that could happen, well...
Actually, you really don't want to know.

Ah, your ignorance shines through. There's a reason stereotypes and specialists exist: magic comes from the mind, and familiar, traditional images help it channel magic. Witches don't dress in orange leopards because it isn't conducive to their casting. This is also why you spend time preparing your materials, to have a better mental image of them.
And the worst thing that could have happened is opening a crack in the defenses of this plane, letting demonic armies breach through. Then, the legions of Celestia would have to march in our defense, turning the mortal plane into endless battlefield.
This is why you stay in school. Take an apprenticeship. It's worth it.

Yes. Channeling magic through focus requires high precision. There's a very good reason why way of magician is called "arcane art".

(And don't even start about so called "modern art"...)

Don't even think about it.
No, seriously, there's alarms that go of in some secret base if someone thinks about letting in either force.

I completely and utterly meant that I had a goal to make sure this never ever happens.
Because it would be very very bad.

Just out of curiosity, are there any other arcane artists who prefer to study fine art of illusions and bending minds of others into your will?

Don't be ridiculous. With no prepared implements or anything else to keep the spell going, as soon as he exploded the spell would fizzle out.

Wait, so what would happen if I tried to summon a Higher Order Demon without a large enough supply of blood? Would orange juice work?
