On the subject of the electronosphere incursion - Merlin's on his way. He isn't talking to the Lady, so it can't be near as bad as the last time. And we at the council have a cunning plan. Let's just say Britain should be on 7G some time soon if all goes right.

On familiars: Never understood the need for traditional familiars myself. I have a cow, and there's no better spy. Even the oldest - especially the oldest - wizards never suspect them. Though I notice there's a trend of pheonixes, likely due to Dumbledore's appearance in a certain fantasy novel.

On tomatoes: You're taking the term too literally. it's less about the physical makeup, and more about the arcane elemental composition, which is shaped by belief. If it doesn't immediately spring to mind as acidic, it generally won't work as such. Half the reason virgin blood is so valuable.

Hey guys, cool to see there's a wizarding topic on here. Didn't know so many Bay12ers were into it, the only one I knew of was Lord Slowpoke.
I'm kinda a newbie to wizardry. I used to be into demonic cults and stuff (Forgive me, I was 12 and Satan seemed cool at the time) but I hated having to deal with demons all the time and the whole thing has been invaded by goths recently, just like vampirism; thank god I didn't get into that or I would have been totally locked into passé bullshit.
Of course, the thing about demonology is that getting materials is very easy. My old cult had the motto "Just some chalk and a goat". In Latin, of course. However, with wizarding you need all sorts of stuff just to get started. My local magic shop is one of those annoying country ones that tries to cater to wizards, druids, clerics, and helicopter moms wanting to put a good luck charm on their little kid just before the big test. So, looks like I'm going to not only put on my robe and wizard hat but also my careful shopper hat.

Any tips for a new wizard looking for stuff on the cheap that I can get from mortal shops?

On the topic of virgin blood, here's a little Satanist tip; pick-up artists are amazing for it. They brag about their "conquests" all the time, so no-one suspects them, and no-one misses them if they get kidnapped and are later found in a river with their blood drained. My cult had to get an industrial freezer for our hideout (I use that term, but really it was the basement of the cult leader; it was kind of stupid, actually, since that was where he kept all his MLP figurines and it totally ruined the mood even with special candles) to store all the virgin blood we were getting.

Hmmm. I'd be curious as to whether you yourself could bind into a tomato then. It's always a matter of some debate whether it's personal belief or widespread belief that works. Some even reckon the beliefs of wizards don't apply.

But yes, fruit bindings are generally impractical, though I know a few wizards who are suffering the effects of aging despite their magic, and they find a slice of incubus lime with their drinks can help them.... perform.

For wizarding gear, i know here in Britain it's much easier to go to a specialist store. But a solid wooden umbrella can make a stave in a pinch (and keep the rain from smudging your rituals) and you'd be amazed how good an enchanted horseshoe will stave off lesser demons.
You may want to avoid killing virgins however. Over here we do frown upon murder, even that of non-wizards, and it's generally preferred to drain them a little and use a memory charm instead. Still, there are bigger risks, such as newer wizards trying to ascend to godhood. That can get somewhat messy as the power goes to their heads, rather literally.

I usually have the best results by buying from the usual wandering merchant. Try to find one with high quality and good prices and make buddies with him. Of course there's also the chance you'll be conned too, but think of the savings!

I mean, I found out what was wrong with my Undine ritual! What was supposed to be flesh of fresh river fish was actually old human flesh steeped in bleach and lye! Don't buy from Mulgo's Flesh Emporeom!

Ah, good old head explosions.

As for the murder, it's cultural differences. In Ireland, it's a little more easy then in Britain. I mean, murder is still frowned upon, but cos of how Ireland's druidic system was set up back in ye olden days there tends to be a bit of a bigger gap between us and those who don't know the lingo. So if you guys need a lot of dead bodies for something, take a trip to Ireland and just try not to make too much of a mess.
With equipment... I have some pretty good runes for handling some demons (Apart from gluttony, those ones just chew through them) so the horseshoe won't be needed.
Funny thing about the stave: I thought you meant staves on the sides of barrel, not a stick. So I ended up ripping one off a barrel... Good thing too, I was just about to try out my first magic missile. Preparation is all. ::)

Merchants are pretty good. Of course, they tend to be con artists around here; they're basically selling you sand at a beach. That's one thing I'll say about Ireland, the ingredients for magical recipes are very common due to leyline radiation. Hell, in some parts of Ireland alchemists outnumber wizards.

And how much did you spend on clean-up for the failed ritual?

I just saw a stream of cabalistic symbols on the FOX network-okay, that's not so strange, I'll admit-but these were 9th level. O'Reily is 5th level, tops-small time.
It's moved into the electronosphere. This is bad.

Oh yes, it's amazing how one summoning ritual botched by a cheap amateur can have such a huge impact on modern magical society. Tell us more about how Osiris planned 9/11, Obama is a Jubjub bird and Harold Holt was secretly a fishperson. Just let me cast Flesh to Metal on my hat first.

That old cheater's still around? We sent him packing when he came to Britain, btu it's always hard to keep tabs on these wandering shop types.

Trust me, I'm a member of Merlin's outer council, and we spend more time dealing with amateur mistakes than full blown necromancy. I'll be straight with you - half the reason that's even allowed now is that a skeleton can only do so much damage compared to a rampaging sentience.

(You may also wish to ensure your hat changes to lead. It's about the only non-organic material more resistant to higher demons than flesh. Why it's so hard to hold them. Though at least we have faraday cages now.)

Honestly, I don't know why anyone would bother buying magical wares in the mortal realm beyond the basics to get started. Even if you can make it to the Upper Planes, there are still plenty of parallel dimensions that even a novice mage can access with rudimentary tools. If you gain access to the Hollow Earth (instructions in this Aethernet link if you don't know how) and visit the city of Mzar, visit Thrgggzzzssrzzz's Emporium. He may be a lizardman, but he's trustworthy, and his prices are fair. True, he doesn't stock a lot of specialty items, but anything you can get in the mortal realm, you can get at Thrgggzzzssrzzz's for the most part at a better quality.

Back to the original topic, I have this circlet I enchanted and let me tell you it changed everything and I'll never be able to go back. Everyone sees me as wearing whatever fashion is the most respectable and impressive to them, but I'll tell you a secret; I've not worn anything but these comfy PJs of Climate Control for over half a century. Null magic zones are a bummer thou, especial in cold places. Also, snobs who True Sight other peoples clothing; not cool dudes.

I hope you have a cleaning charm on those PJs :P

I myself have always had a soft spot for armour myself. A couple of enchanted axes and a mail hauberk, and for some reason no one spares a second glance. I suppose it's the non-magical types obsession with dressing up. Course, I always carry around a set of reed pipes for nature magic - handy in a pinch.

I will say when ridding into a skirmish I have a soft spot for scale mail with integrated plates over a mithril shirt. Of course my scale male shines of purple black and blue and after tearing apart my enemies with my sword or spear and laying my Greek style hoplon down for the day my mail armor also takes on the going of my enemies red blood

Ah, yes, Runeblades are indeed quite fantastic. My buddy, Rolin the Vanquisher, wields a Runeblade, and he's quite the sight to behold on the battlefield. Although he does tell me that he quite a bit of difficulty casting long-range spells with it. Any comments on that?

And as for robes, personally I find them a bit old-fashioned. I prefer a duster with protection spells magically woven into its threads. Not only does it save me from harm, it also neatly conceals my Magelock Pistol. I also pair that with a short-topped wide-brimmed hat. My compatriots say I don't even properly look like wizard. I say that's the point; the enemy won't know what to expect from me. I will, however, dig out the old robes and pointy hat when I do need to dress-to-impress.
Well, they aren't for everyone, and while that can certainly be an issue, I find a pair of Single-League Boots remedies the problem easily enough for most situations. It really depends on the exact Runeblade in question, in the end; the style of blade is as important as the enchantments on it, I find.

I tend to prefer plate armor, myself; now before you jibe at me for wearing so much metal, let me tell you; with the proper wards, high quality Faesilver with an adamantium overlay, and personalized enchantments? A good set of armor can insulate you from all but the best spells, for only a minor loss in casting speed and no loss to vision. I prefer to Spectrally Link my armor and sword so it can better serve as a conduit for my magic, and indeed, the runes I've built into my gauntlets(written in a mixture of Hellwarden blood and ash made from the beard of a Frost Giant) allow me to cast spells with even greater precision than if I were wearing no armor at all! And as an added benefit, in a pinch, you can take off your helm and toss on some robes to impress while remaining fairly well-protected(no longer a close circuit, however, so much of the benefit of feedback looping the Aether back on itself to improve wardstrength is lost, unfortunately).

When I do wear robes, though, I tend to prefer a dark red or purple, as it keeps stains from showing easily when you haven't had time to clean them, and the trim tends to be a nice dull metallic color; enough to draw the eye, but not enough to detract from the main package, so to speak.

Which reminds me; what secondary implement do you prefer, if any, Kadzar? A second Magelock?
