I'd assume he would make up orcy sounding names for them rather than the proper scientific nomenclature.  Or just use their common nicknames, like 'hell pigs' or 'giant condor'.

Giant bats would fit as well. I often had orc sieges in the old masterwork (before taiga orcs and orcs were merged) that came mounted on giant blight bats, and even the masterfully (*cough horrible *cough) hobbit movies have war bats.

Btw, there is a fan-cut of the hobbit, cuts all three movies together to a 4h movie with all the lovetriangle, legolas and most action nonsense cut out. Its great.

Indeed, the existing "arctic condor" is more or less a teratorn :)

Yes I remember the bat sieges too, those were fun.  None of the civilized races currently have flying mounts either, I think.

Because they might get stuck high in the air, with no way to end sieges.

Same with amphibious mounts, they run into moats and drown their riders. Had to get rid of them too.

Yes flying mount are annoying, unless you have a squad of 10 shooters, or fireball. The mounts tend to sit at z+1 and do nothing but scare.

As an attack against simple walls, remember that invaders can climb now.

How exactly does that work though? Goblins pathfind across 1-zlevel walls now? I havent seen any climbing siege in action, havent really played 40.x yet.  :-[

from what I've heard in order for invaders to climb, there must be a visible target. 1 z-level walls are a piece of cake. 2 or more z-level walls offer more of a challenge. boulders are the easiest to climb, followed by smooth blocks with smoothed stone being the hardest.

Arent all constructed walls automatically smooth? Or is there a difference between constructed wall made of a boulder, log or block?

not anymore. they weren't either earlier, but now whether you built the wall out of boulders, blocks, logs (they are as hard to climb as boulders) or if you smoothed a natural wall counts.

Boulder walls are called rough walls, while block walls are smooth walls. DF made no use of that before.

I think invaders jump too, I dunno if they go as far as sprint to make it through larger gaps. DF has parkour now.

Do they look differently? Does a boulder wall look normal, while a smooth wall looks engraved? Or did that stay the way it is?
