The good old days
« on: December 29, 2003, 03:04:00 pm »

I miss the good old days of curses games.  How about a little update for the good old liberal crime squad for the holidays?

I would have put more curses games out, but the last ones I've started have been more complicated.  I'm more than halfway done with one of them...  the others aren't much more than a twinkle in daddy's eye.

I can't put out another LCS while I'm away, since I don't have the code.  But I hope I put something (LCS or whatever) out in January dammit.  It has been way too long.

Well, at some point I'd like to see the inventory sorting that we had discussed a LONG time ago, at least...  Whats the name of the curses games that are almost done?

Here's a list of what I have sitting around, some of these titles are place-holders:

Armok, partially coded, 3D

MegaCorp: Mercantilism in Space, just starting, 2D

Death in the Chapel, just starting, Curses

Power Slam, just starting, 2D

Dwarf Fortress, halfway done, Curses

Wizard Tower Battle Research Game, halfway done, Curses

Also:  I'm basically done with a Curses game like Adventure for the Atari 2600, but it needs something more.  I also got somewhat through a prison game for curses called Talking Smack, but it isn't going anywhere fast.

I finished a few of the suggestions for LCS.  Items are now compressed into a "Trenchcoat x3" format, and there's a wait button you can use at sites.

There's an issue with the new item display -- when making fencing selections, it will sell all of the items.  I guess that is eminently fixable, and its fixing is imminent.  Or something.

There were lots of other suggestions floating around that I wrote down a year ago or whenever in the source file.  I can do some of those too and then put it up.

It's based on Dante's Inferno, where souls are damned to hell and tormented forever.

Sweet, a game based off Dante's Inferno... This is the apotheosis of amusement: a game where you damn souls to Hell.

Yes, let's not forget about me, who suddenly got a bug on my internet explorer and couldn't access this for months and more months, only to return to find myself banned for badmouthing homosexual people it seems...

No harsh feelings though, looking forward to try the latest LCS  :)

Okay, this thread is ancient, but I'm reviving it because I was asking Toad on IRC about the games he mentioned here, and he lost his connection before we were done talking(I assume that's when his router died.)

So, yeah. I was wondering what Mercantilism, Power Slam and Talking Smack are/were like, and what became of them. That was where the IRC conversation left off, I think...

There's not much to say about those I guess.  The ideas from them have kind of merged into other projects, although something like Megacorp might still work.  My current list of active never-released projects is something like:

Dwarf Fortress
(see the main thread)

Star Team
(almost done)

Little Lord Animals: Child Forest Apocalypse
(planned out, have some things moving on the screen)

No More Stumpy-Wumples
(almost done)

Corin 2
(have the very basics started, but there's a lot to do)

Fantasy Slaughter 2
(some programming done, but more work is needed)

Death in the Chapel
(planned, but very little coding done)

Happy Valley
(on its way, but much bloating is required)

Also something with dooks maybe, and various half-formed ideas are floating around...  the games above are pretty coherently planned.
