That derail tho.

In any case, I've taken some time to think about this.

This game has 36 players in it.
Compare this to, say, Civilization 5, that only allows 22 at the max, and I'm trying to run a game that your high-end video game won't even allow. And I'm a human with terrible skills, nothing close to what those things can do.

It's simply... Too damn large for me to physically handle.
Another big problem with this is that I originally designed this with the idea of actual battles being the fun part, and then designed it to where it takes fucking forever to get to a battle.
That's my fault, I didn't think.

I'm going to run something different, where it just uses the battle rules, and ignores all the other bullshit.
Sorry for wasting everybody's time.

I was going to type out something along the lines of "nah it's cool" but it's too long-winded so I'll just tell you to shut up, it's no big deal, you were doing this out of the goodness of your own heart etc. etc.

It would've been a pretty big time-sink for you, and you don't have the time to do it. No shame in that.

I thought that at elast a turn would be posted before this, but I saw it coming anyway.

Mastah, I feel that you tend to get into things with a really huge scope, which doens't really contribute much to the essence of a game. Would we have got less depth if instead of 30 people we had been 8? No, in fact, we could have had more depth and customization, and you, yourself, could have enjoyed the game. In fact, by doing this on such a large scale, the game ended up being simplified quite a lot. What is the joy of writing a game if, for example, all turns are going to be a monotonous phrase? Think of yourself, and what would you like to do when GMing a game. After all, games are for everyone's enjoyment, incuding the GM.

It is sad, but not unexpected. I don't blame you at all for dropping this.

I do blame you for accepting 36 players in the first place, though. :P

If i knew how you were going to do this, I would grab a couple guys and we'd work on this and make it work. I love the concept and it seems epic. Sadly, I dunno what you were going to do

We did recommend to try it with less players.

Keep my sheet somewhere, mastah. Drop me a PM when you bring your new game up.

Oh well, it happens. I think someone else asked you to post a link to your new game here and I'll agree with them, but will you ever consider releasing the material you were using to run the game?

So, uh, just thinking out loud here, but what if we replaced mastah with some server software?

Then people could have a roughly similar game without the abandonment issues.

'Course, I'd need to figure out networking, etc. before I could code it, but it's an idea.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

I still have all the data in text documents.

Actually, if anyone wanted to see what everyone's traits were, and things like that, I could post the whole dump here.

I'm only a first semester networking student, so I can't help you. But I'm totally up for the idea of taking mastahcheese's idea and not only creating a game reasonable for it, but maybe even working with some of you guys to actually run a big ass game like this. I don't think one person can run this alone, but Mastahcheese as we all know, is a GM genius and has a lot of great ideas in his head. First it was Roll to Die, then the derail games, then this. It's unique, different and I love his ideas. Sadly, he has minimal time to run it all. One day, I'm certain Mastahcheese will come up with this perfectly awesome game that even though he can't run it properly, will be this epic game that everyone will probably want to, if they didn't already, join in and we'll have a huge derail game that's so big, so epic, that Toady will have to release more DF updates in order to keep up.

Now if only we can give Mastahcheese a dangling carrot to stop being lazy...

We might as well create a text-based online/website-based game in that case.

Kind of what I was thinking. I don't know anything about website development, unfortunately, but I should be able to tackle the back-end fairly easily.

If someone was going to create a website for my making games, that would be insane.
I would totally support that, though :P
