I think the way that mastahcheese has set it up, it should all run smoothly. And I agree that it's most likely intended for, at the very start, to "thin out the herd", if you pardon the expression.

Actually, from what I can guess, mastahcheese won't be thinning the herd; it will be us, as opposed to an almighty being smiting kingdoms. (As in, I guess he's going to force us into conflict from the start, and encourage it to continue.)

Non of the characters are prepared, that's a big point of the game.
